Sack Flanagan

This is the same Ilias who kicked out on the full at a crucial stage in a game we lost earlier in the year? The same Ilias who couldn’t game manage and get us home with a few 12 point leads earlier in the year?
Geez people have short memories.
Ilias isn’t the answer- just a different type of problem.
NSW Cup team has been virtually unbeatable with Ilias.

I've had a gut full of signing rubbish players.

Let's be real what the actual issue is.
Agree we need to improve our roster.
I think the blooding of our juniors this year has been positive. None of us are happy with results at the moment but I think Flanno is doing a great job with the roster we had at his disposal. Our failure to sign one or two top level props is really holding us back. Sacking the coach is not the answer. Are South's trying to sack Bennett are their poor performance last night?

You numb skulls do not realise that the coach is not the problem. We have tried this before with Mary and then Hook.
This is the common denominator. There needs to be some accountability here. Get him the help he needs or get an upgrade in the GMF position. I am not condoning abusing or picking on one person! we need to be able to recruit and retain successfully. This is the area we need to fix.

A bad carpenter blames his tools. The board blames Flanagan , get a new coach and in 2 years we will still be 7/14th on the ladder. Look in the mirror board.

Flano has a long term plan… it took Gould 2-3 years to start the dogs comeback…. as he said we are in a transition period which will take time… extend him for 2 years to give him a 5 year tenure and you will see the results for our long term future

Weidler and his mates already trying to undermine him and get D Young…. absolutely no way

Agree....stick solid with the plan! Don't listen to the grub reporters......calmness, patience, and tranquility doesn't sell news papers or get viewers. These clowns thrive on controversy. No no-one likes their side in the middle or bottom of the competition. The major thing we need to improve is our recruitment quality and cap management.

Dear I say, Flanno had one of his best nights in the Red and White with the forwards laying a good platform and LKT being more involved and though he made more meters with his boot.
Yes, in the first half of the game. Then the same old problems appear in the second half. Luckily, we managed to be in front on the scoreboard this time.

When I hear people say this, I like to hear who that person things should be shown the door and who should be recruited in their place. Most times there is no response to such questions, maybe because there are no easy answers.

For the record, I can say that I like our young forwards who are coming through. All they need is a marquee prop (similar to AFB and Hass) to lead the way.

Young halfback Reed looks to me to be our long-term solution at halfback. We need a marquee halfback (similar to DCE and Katao) to help keep us competitive and manage the team on the field.

Good article from Weidler and I think it's a fair assessment. Clearly there has been a Fox Sports bias towards SF but the shine is wearing off that, especially when he picks his inept son over one of Anasta's clients.

Of course it will cause tension among the playing group too, who could take the guy seriously when he has been so hasty to drop Finau, LPT, Ilias but his son gets a free ride?

Flanagan has built this squad himself, he has been coach for two years now and is responsible for the poor playing roster, no one else. The coach has the final say in recruitment/retention and that's that.

We snuck home in a game that we should have won by a cricket score and now many are in this thread taking a victory lap as if all the issues have gone away, unfortunately it doesn't work like that and from everything we've seen and the way the season is progressing, we will be doing well not to finish a bottom four side.
If/when that eventuates the onus will be on our club management to make the decision to sack Flanagan and replace him with a more capable coach and I for one, look forward to that day as it will mean the club can go in a much more promising direction that it is currently.

I have a different take. I believe the Dragons should progressively sack and replace the following staff during the rest of this season. Have the CEO earn his keep:
Dean Young
Carr
Haran
Millard
Millward
Fitness Staff

This to get rid of the dead wood and show S Flannagan the Board is serious and committed to make changes. If things do not improve, then sack S Flannagan.

Fair enough Possm, agree to disagree.

I am of the view that a new coach needs to advocate for support around him in the form of a proper recruitment and pathways manager and a GM of football/coaching director. The power would then be vested in those two plus the head coach to drive results and performance and the BOD can focus on high level things such as sponsorship, stadiums, general admin etc.

I believe our club management whilst incompetent, it is not intentionally so.
They don't know what a successful club management structure looks like, that's why we need a coach from a successful set up outside of the dragons to come in and show them the way on this. I believe if a coaching candidate was proactive and demanded these changes as a condition of their appointment, the BOD would be willing to act on this also. Without this, then our BOD will leave a coach to their own devices as they've done with our current and past coaches and once the pressure mounts and the results are no longer acceptable, it is then all too late for the coach to be saved.
