Strange decision to extend a coach with such a poor record to date, I'm sure we'll all come to regret the decision being made so prematurely.

Anyhow this just means that you'll all be seeing more and more anti Flanagan posts as the years pass by 😂😂

The more posts you make, I suspect the cortisol levels will continue to rise until.... your posts suddenly cease. But, will that happen before the end of the 2028 season.

Flanno isnt perfect, but he can get a side up for gameday, imagine if he actually had a squad with the talent that most other NRL sides are blessed with... and a forward pack that regularly matched their opposition... or a long kicking game... I think he outcoaches a lot of his fancier rivals.

But the more I thought about it, the more it became what was the alternative and unless they had Bellamy/Bennett lined up (which is never happening).. it just would have led to 1-2 yrs of absolute hot mess with recruitment and results while we transitioned.. for a new coach who was no more likely to succeed than this one.... I dont think we have a choice but to give Flanno some decent support in terms of backroom staff.. help him fix this roster... and let the guy coach...

I will say however that part of that staff we need is 1 or 2 quality football heads to act as sounding boards for Flanno.. you all know what its like when your inside your own head all the time, how you can get it wrong with the way you see certain issues... let alone a man in a pressure position like Shane is.. you need rational clever football finds to bounce off.. and we didnt have that the last 2 years.. bar perhaps Deano.. but I think we can do much better, more than just 'run hard tackle hard' we needed clever brains for both on-field stuff and recruitment.

This just in…. Flanno Jr to be extended for the next 10 years as captain, assistant coach and starting half back. More details to come.

in all seriousness. I’m glad Flanno was extended. He’s done pretty well with what he’s been given. I think it’s not on him that the team can’t sign top notch talent.

Hopefully it also puts an end to the unsubstantiated assertion that Dean Young is sneakily white anting Flanno. Whether you respect DY as an Assistant or not, repeatedly stating that he is a Machiavellian mischief maker, with zero evidence, is IMO very unreasonable.
Personally, I'm also weary of the incessant assertion that we have the worst squad in the comp - which is demonstrably incorrect.
Plus, the regular demands for 'marquee' players. There are only 3 or 4 marquee halves in the comp and they're all committed elsewhere. There's been a number of marquee bludgers trotting around for us over the years. There's also quite a few so-called marquee players currently loitering in other clubs who are playing pretty poor footy at present too.
A really solid forward pack is what enables good halves to perform at their best. I think we're at least half way there for good halves and we’re almost set for a good forward pack for '26.
One thing Saints have always done is develop talented players. We've needed the brains and the strategic thinking to hang onto the right ones.
I think we're finally restoring some of the defining features that made us a great club.

So does this mean the DY starts looking elsewhere for a HC role or does it strengthen his position to get the head coaching role here in a couple of more years?

“They know I love the place and want to be here long term. So it was a very easy negotiation between two parties that didn’t want to change anything.”

For the love of rugbah loige... the parties don't even want the number of W's to change? What an ill thought out statement.

Anyways... now onto adding those 2 (hopefully 3) class players to the roster.
