How unusual that a Bennett coached team would play with strong defence, good attack and play as a team. A bunch of rejects , has beens and no names put the Roosters to the sword. For those that thought we would have an easy win against the Dolphins think again. Bennett vs Griffin what a laughable event.
Rejects and no names FMD three of their starting forwards would still be running out for the Storm if they had of stayed there and their class clearly show out today.

We would go a helluva lot better with those so called rejects lol

I doubt it. We’d have no plan, no energy, they’d be plodders in our side.
The Dolphins spine is Hammer, Katoa, O’Sulivan, Marshall King. And they were outstanding today. That’s not an overly strong spine on paper but the way they played, you have to take your hat off to Bennett.
Hook has NFI about game plans and cannot get the players to play for one another.
There is zero urgency or speed of play with us, it’s all in slow motion.
Yep Kafusi and Bromwich are not no names but the way they played today, wow, the coach got them up for sure.

I’m merely pointing out that Bennett did get ti work with some very talented footballers so the victory is not totally unexpected
Yes he did get the best out of them and we might not be able to do that but those 3 players would all straight into almost every team so hardly no names.

For me it was totally unexpected.
Roosters 1-17 is pretty star studded.
I’m still in shock as to how well the Dolphins played, and their pressure forced the Rorters to make errors galore.

Agree half the battle is the mental side of the game.

Can agree partly OT, but the storm did let them go, they are all coming to the back end of their careers. My comparison is what did Griffen get out of Mcguire Sims and the slowest hooker in the world, and what would Bennett have got out of them, I think it would have been vastly different. I was giving Hook until RND 6-7 but seeing how the Titans , Dolphins, Broncos played and if we turn up like we did in the CS, then all I can say its lucky we got 2 points early. You would never see a Bennett trained squad turn up with a shit attitude no matter what game they played in.

Agree you wouldn't and that comes down to the coach and his discipline and culture he is trying to instill into his squad

100%, there is just no comparison, a coach who is a legend vs a coach who thinks he is a legend. In all seriousness what has Griffen achieved, just get Hasler here ASAP.
On another forum I stated before the start of last year that this coach had lost the dressing room and our on field performances would reflect that. In my view that was confirmed. I can only summise that the reason he was not shown the door was financial reasons and the sheer stubborness of the board in not admitting that they got it wrong

Agree, well lets see what decisions they come up with after another failed season this year.

In a salary-capped sport you've got to find an advantage, find a winning edge where you can OFF the field - and the biggest, best advantage you can get is to choose a coach (or a coaching combination) who can instil self-belief and confidence into the players, and construct a plan to capitalise on their strengths. Wayne Bennett is in the pantheon of these coaches without question, and has always had the nous to keep smart assistant coaches close by. From Bellamy back in the 90s all the way to Woolf now.

We do not have that edge. Not even close

Noticed South’s have 4 former STGI players injured at present:

Taane Milne, Hame Sele, Jacob Host & Siliva Havili.

Manly have Garrick & Saab.

How many of theses guys would look good in our 30 man squad ?

Seems to me that since Uncle Wayne left, it’s the coaching staff that has failed the players rather than pathways.

Let's not overlook the current Cowboys hooker Reece Robson he would have solved our hooking problem that has restricted us for the past 3 yrs

I will never understand why Robson was let go. He was killing it in the juniors at Saints and rep teams which showed he had great ability, yet was not good enough for first grade. Cowboys probably could not believe their eyes that he would be let go. This however was under Mary's tenure and they had McInness at the time at hooker. I am sure if it was under Hooks watch Macca would have been picked ahead of Robbo.

It is good to see the lad live up to his talent in his juniors days but sad it is not for his junior club.

Agree we have had a litany of poor coaches and retention and recruitment team for the last 10 yrs
