Didn't we have someone who was going to be remarkable at recruiting and retention, he had supposedly all the contacts and experience, yes Mr Flannagan, that would be you. Since you did such a marvelous job at R + R and whilst you also spent time as the AC, of course I would consider you for the HC position if it came up. NO WAY IN THE WORLD !!!!

Actually his boss was Ben Haran our GM of football. From all reports, he is a good person with one of the toughest jobs in the NRL, but he’s better suited to team management than being a head-kicker prepared to stand up to the coach and managers, even the board. Hence our current poor recruitment and selection of HC. Griffin has lost the dressing shed that happened after the BBQ affair and has continued with the behaviour of some players both on and off the field. What all loyal supporters need to understand just removing Griffin won't necessarily help the football team. At the very least 2 board members need to be replaced including Haran.

100% agree.

jodragon - IMO, the Board structure screams out for an Independent Chairman. StGI's dysfunction starts at the very top! Our directors should resolve immediately to recruit the best possible, professionally qualified and experienced sports director / manager / administrator available - for a completely independent chair position - with the exercise of a casting vote. Then .... get serious about restoring this RL club, which was once the greatest of all RL clubs - and one of the greatest sports clubs - in the world!

Honestly with the board, club and team divided I don't see a positive outcome unless someone in authority or a mass show of anger by all current members akin to the oust Doust campaign happens.

Oh to have a coach who is not just some roadblock to our success!

I've tried to like Hook but he has turned out to be incapable of imprinting some gritty DNA and bringing cohesion to our side.

Two brilliantly coached teams ran around last night. Both would be super pleased with their players commitment to the cause. One club knew he needed the punt, the other had the man who should have followed Wayne at ours. We had him in our midst and let him go. And for what?

Yes JD should have been our coach from 2017. He is the type of coach that the players needed.
He would have been successful for us.

Demetriou was let go at the end of 2016 (after winning the NSW Cup with the Cutters). Paul McGregor was very very good at identifying threats to his own job and weeding them out. (Justin Holbrook was another)
Was he there when Price was there ?

Can agree partly OT, but the storm did let them go, they are all coming to the back end of their careers. My comparison is what did Griffen get out of Mcguire Sims and the slowest hooker in the world, and what would Bennett have got out of them, I think it would have been vastly different. I was giving Hook until RND 6-7 but seeing how the Titans , Dolphins, Broncos played and if we turn up like we did in the CS, then all I can say its lucky we got 2 points early. You would never see a Bennett trained squad turn up with a shit attitude no matter what game they played in.
Well justa. Bennett has done it again for the Dolphins. I was watching the game up to the time that the Raiders led 10-0 and Marshall-KIng got sin binned so I decided to turn the game off to do some things and low and behold later my brother, who also follows the Dragons, texts me to say that the Dolphins will make the top 8 this year. I looked up the final score and yes, they got up so I had to watch the mini highlights on Kayo. A good win by the Dolphins and I'm sure that the master coach has his guys buoyed with confidence for the games ahead.

Look let me just say this for what it's worth. A coach is like a star jockey if he is not riding decent cattle he's never going to win a group race no matter how good he may be. The same here with Griffin. What people need to factor in was our clubs salary cap issues which included a freeze last year. Hence in the last 6 yrs since we actually made the 8 our recruitment and retention team needs the spotlight firmly placed on them. We have failed miserably in retaining and developing our rising starts, Sloan and Sullivan are two who should have been handled differently. Recruitment who in the last 6 yrs can anyone say that's a good buy he or they can change our fortunes. This season is no different Liddle, Murdoch - Masila, Musgrove, Lui- Tosa and now Turner.2 recruits from last year's wooden spooners, 1 from the team that ran 2nd last, 1 from a QLD Cup team and now 1 from another team that actually finished below us last season. For us long suffering Dragons supporters it's another season with no semi finals football again. So although we l want the coaches head he has had his accomplices.
Wayne Bennett, Redcliffe Dolphins.
