I will never understand why Robson was let go. He was killing it in the juniors at Saints and rep teams which showed he had great ability, yet was not good enough for first grade. Cowboys probably could not believe their eyes that he would be let go. This however was under Mary's tenure and they had McInness at the time at hooker. I am sure if it was under Hooks watch Macca would have been picked ahead of Robbo.

It is good to see the lad live up to his talent in his juniors days but sad it is not for his junior club.
Lets hope we dont talk about Sloan or Sullivan in the same context. I'm eager to see the team selections come out this week.

Noticed South’s have 4 former STGI players injured at present:

Taane Milne, Hame Sele, Jacob Host & Siliva Havili.

Manly have Garrick & Saab.

How many of theses guys would look good in our 30 man squad ?

Seems to me that since Uncle Wayne left, it’s the coaching staff that has failed the players rather than pathways.
Those 4 Souths players hardly get any game time. Milne might lose his spot to Thompson who was another one of ours.
JD knew waht we had when he was with us a few years ago. Her should of replaced Mary after that reggies GF

From my memory Robson had a string of injuries and we thought we had enough cover. Sound familiar? It’s hard to keep everyone with talent and promise. It’s worth persisting with the younguns but they need patience, guidance and good coaching. NOT all of that rest on the head coach. It’s a business and some we win some we lose. Happy to persist with the ones coming through but our roster has not been greatly enhanced so we take a punt on the same sort of players like we let go, ie our new hooker Liddle. Hopefully he will be older, stronger and the tigers in a couple of years will be asking the same question?

You are right BLM01. JD should have been the coach instead of Mary. Who knows how many top 8/4 finishes we would have had with him as our coach. Those two reggies games we won in 2016 were great.

Look let me just say this for what it's worth. A coach is like a star jockey if he is not riding decent cattle he's never going to win a group race no matter how good he may be. The same here with Griffin. What people need to factor in was our clubs salary cap issues which included a freeze last year. Hence in the last 6 yrs since we actually made the 8 our recruitment and retention team needs the spotlight firmly placed on them. We have failed miserably in retaining and developing our rising starts, Sloan and Sullivan are two who should have been handled differently. Recruitment who in the last 6 yrs can anyone say that's a good buy he or they can change our fortunes. This season is no different Liddle, Murdoch - Masila, Musgrove, Lui- Tosa and now Turner.2 recruits from last year's wooden spooners, 1 from the team that ran 2nd last, 1 from a QLD Cup team and now 1 from another team that actually finished below us last season. For us long suffering Dragons supporters it's another season with no semi finals football again. So although we l want the coaches head he has had his accomplices.

I think that's a very fair summation although I'd add that the best jockeys tend to be offered the best rides. So it often turns out to be a virtuous circle.

So while I'm not a Hook fan, apportioning all of the blame on him is definitely unreasonable. Players will enjoy a better lifestyle at other clubs (moreso the younger players), they'll have a greater chance of playing finals and of making rep teams (each with the additional financial benefits associated), plus they're better connected for life post-football.

Little if any of that is down exclusively to Hook. But what Bennett did - as we've seen also with Fitzgibbon and now Ciraldo - is offer that circuit-breaker.

So the coach and back-office team can institute a change of direction but I just don't see it happening anytime soon for the Dragons while they continue to set mere survival as the benchmark.

Yes. Nobody in their right mind would be a 'fan' of Hook's selections and game plans but the tragedy of this club's downward spiral to the point of scraping the bottom of the barrel to put a first grade team together can't be ignored. I'm not knocking the new recruits and young guys. I hope they all nail it this year. The Head Coach position carries ultimate responsibility for the on-field performance but it's such a 'fall guy' position if the club itself isn't providing consistent, fully committed, red-hot support. It's starkly obvious that the 'unity of purpose' thing is the key to winning in this sport. The major part of the 'competition' these days is really off the field.

Agree in my view if the coach is axed he certainly shouldn't be the only one if we are to move forward from our current situation

Yes times have changed since my days involved in the sport. Have a look at this week's Dragons NSW Cup team. To me it says it all. Players picked out of position and one of our new signings on the bench in reserves.

Well here we are at the point of no return so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Plenty of youngsters in the team, plenty of dead wood in reserves and the only outstanding roster issues to be addressed are Mybe and Amone save of course who gets position no 30.

So we need someone to stand up tall in reserves to make the 14 spot his and that sorts out Mybe and where to with Amone well that is a conundrum that might take some time to sort out.

Now that we have 99% of the type of team we all believe we should have, given our roster, the only thing else to contemplate is the style of footy that we will adopt.

If we play expansive no doubt we will make mistakes as we learn something else other than 5 hit ups and a useless kick so here's hoping we are discussing our errors in a positive frame of mind come Sunday 8:30 pm.

The next 3-4 weeks should give our youngsters a bit of time to settle in before Anzac Day and then we will get a good idea of what lies in store for the rest of the season.

Fingers crossed but I believe that the team is divided

Even five hit ups and a useful kick would be a start!

I cannot fathom the constant out-of-position selections. We seem to have been experimenting like this for at least the past decade.

Jodragon and Old Timer: Yes, but why?
I know it's a rhetorical question, but surely everyone who works for StGI and WIN must have been focused upon this for at least the last 10 years - and if not, why not?
Like many here, I'm sooo frustrated by the apparent inaction and seemingly endless decline. I've been a supporter for about 60 years. When will the Club even attempt to answer this question? Give us a break!

Not far behind you as a supporter. My view is since RL became a business with a footy team attached we just haven't had the necessary quality senior management with sufficient footballing knowledge looking after our beloved club. Just take a look at the current board members especially the GM Haran and the head Lancaster they have no RL history and we are suffering as a result. These blokes are not accountable to the members just the stock exchange.
