I'd accept Deano as HC if he can bring Robson with him and have Flanagan as AC.
Thing is Flanno did nothing good as an assistant here either
As many have mentioned 3 clubs have now ignored him
Maybe there is stuff we dont know

I would prefer him to be head coach than Hook , and give Deano a bit more experience away if he is a done deal in the medium term

Does anyone know what Ryles is like , he at least seems to be trying to get experience elsewhere and is ex Saints

I like how Ryles has experienced being an assistant under Bellamy and Robbo. That to me is a huge plus and why Saints should seriously look at him. And if the Storm are looking at him he must be ok.

Young's last game in charge of Saints they beat an understrength Storm. He played Sullivan in the halves and he had a great game. So far that alone shows he is better than Hook. Never thought Saints would find a coach to make Mary look good, well they did and it did not take long at all.

Why isnt Ryles being mentioned ??
Because Young is sown up ??

Hooks full strength team lost to Bronco's reserves, Young's Dragons team with juniors beat Melbourne reserves. That is what I meant in comparison.
Hooks team also included Juniors that he gave debuts to? Also, Hooks understrength team beat a full strength Broncos.

Apart from the massive difference between the squads, a couple of games before the Storm game we got beaten by the Cowboys who finished below us on the table.

So talking up Young's credentials based on a single game is somewhat overselling it.

If we sign Dean Young as coach we are epitome of a basket case.
Can you at least explain this? He is a one club premiership player, completely understands the red V, he has decided upon a coaching career where he has had success in lower grades, in particular with some of our own juniors coming into first grade now whereby that relationship could be hugely beneficial to them. He has taken the big step of developing his knowledge and experience by spending time elsewhere where the club he is assistant coaching has gone from bottom to top in his time there. I understand the Craig Young thing and that might be behind your basket case comment but apart from a hint of nepotism it’s not like he is Hunter Biden.

According to this thread we should terminate some people's contracts before they start in their position (eg; Woolf) and should recruit every rooky coach we can think of including those who aren't available to form a coaching collective and promote an existing Assistant Coach to Head Coach, even though no other club even wants to acknowledge his existence.

We now have until next February to think about all this so the first thing we need to do is to take a few deep breaths and relax.

He has only spent 2 seasons away from our club so I'd say he has a long way to go before completing his apprenticeship as far as cowboys success goes how many times have great assistant coaches turned out to be complete duds, Seibold, Price, Barrett, Stone etc. It would also scream jobs for the boys how many ex players have gotten roles us and it's been a failure? Not to mention no matter how badly he were to underperform his dad can continually bail him out and justify extensions excuses etc. Also Dean Young is a lot like his old man and how successful was Craig as coach? We've wasted enough time with unproven duds sure Hook was an experienced outsider and that didn't work out but it was at least something different whereas the jobs for the boys formula has proven even worse Brown, Price, Mary etc.

I've asked twice for anyone to provide any evidence to support the claim that Young is a cert to be the next coach .... haven't had a response from anyone yet, other than the fact that his old man has the same surname.
Agree. We as fans sometimes assume coaches or players actually want to come here. Really, why would Young want to return return? He's at a club on the up and doing really well. They're in the frame for a premiership over the next 3 years. It's the same as Ryles and to a lesser extent Hornby.

If either of those three wanted a head coach role, you'd be holding out for Melbourne when Bellamy goes, perhaps Manly and maybe even the Dolphins.

It will be interesting to see who Melbourne will get as coach in the future, I would suspect Ryles would be in that frame. Also I would do everything possible to get Bellamy over into the football manager role.

Journos love to read our forums, take what we can assume and then turn it into reality.

All we know ATM, and we can speculate until the cows (no pun intended) come home, about our HC role.
At this stage, Hook is still HC, and there's nothing coming out to suggest otherwise. So, assume he will be HC at least into '23 season.
We haven't even announced our assistant coaches for next year as yet, although Ben Woolf, seems 100% on board, the other/s, there's been no real news of.
As for 'assumptive' reasoning of who may slot into the HC role, if Hook is Hooked, then the candidates are:

Ryles: unlikely, and probably favorite to take over at the Storm, with Bellamy staying on in a CD type role.
Hornby: unlikely, nothing to suggest he could take the reigns of an NRL squad as yet.
Young: possible, but unlikely at this stage. Inexperience and howls of nepotism would kill of his tenure pretty quickly if results aren't somewhat immediate. Not suggesting that it won't happen sometime in the future though.
There's a multitude of former asst coaches, who have caretaken in a HC capacity, some with results and some that don't.
There are also former HC who are looking to get back and claim some redemption ic they were booted from that role previously.

I'm assuming nothing will happen with the Dragons, either way until well into the new season.
I think this is shown in the current recruiting snail train. Waiting patiently for that end of year, Nov1 deadline to see who falls out from there current club, and we can pick up on our 'moneyball' philosophy.
It will be interesting (probably wrong terminology), to see what happens will those still unsigned, and whether they are used as pawns in any negotiations for players. I'm referring to the likes of Ford etc.

I suspect though with the NRLW now in full swing and that seems to be the front and center focus, the next we here about our NRL squad will be well into Oct or even early Nov.

So, journos, I'm sorry there's nothing spicy there for you guys to salivate over, so maybe it's time to shift focus onto some other Club who are languishing in the mire, and leave us to tread water for a while.

Manly also in the market for assistants

I thought Slater was the likely successor at the Storm or, just media crap
im sure if Ryles is offered Storm , a professional club vs Saints , a rabble , we know what he would choose

I don’t have a problem with a well experienced rookie like Ryles and let’s be realistic no good and experienced HC will come to saints
