For 5 years the fans have expressed their dismay and lack of support for McGregor's appointment as the FG coach.
We have all endured many embarrassing moments during his tenure such as season 2016 where we were literally a rabble under his tutelage.
2017 monumental and record breaking fade to be bumped out of the finals after losing a string of games late in the season when it mattered most.
Beaten by the wooden spooners Newcastle and embarrassed by Canterbury with our season on the line.
And finally 2018 - who can forget the monumental flogging at the hands of Parramatta and the total embarrassment of Lance Thompson's tribute night and Nightingales last game at Kogarah.
We didn't get beaten, we got towelled up on our sacred home ground and with lots to play for.
I have been following St. George since a toddler - 1966 in fact.- but I can never remember our team being booed off the pitch by fans who were so hurt and embarrassed by what they were served up.
In McGregor's case, this has now happened twice.
Once at Wollongong against Newcastle last year in the first round at half time.
The other was the game against the Dogs at Kogarah this year.
So I really don't care how people rationalize McGregor's tenure but it is not of a standard that this great club deserves.
So given the overwhelming groundswell of sentiment against McGregor continuing, how do you feel as a fan that the Board would just thumb their nose at you and all of us and go ahead and make another misguided and premature appointment and extension of the worst coach this club has ever had to endure??
We've already sucked it up for 5 years and in reality we have no choice because our opinions mean absolutely nothing the gentlemen who are comfy in their board of directors chairs.
One thing I refuse to do though , is accept this totally unjust appointment that has weighed down our club for so long.

Yes you are correct Old Timer . What annoyed me was his blatant attempt of turning everything around as if I was at fault . However as is so evident he lives in another universe , one which Vas , Sigturd and Ruby travel to on occasions.

The issue here is perception.

We perceive McGregor to be appointed on false pretenses, is incompetent, poor game manager, poor selector and can throw any chalkenger under a bus for any reason.

The board perceive him to be a career coach, developing and improving, provides stability, the players love him (especially those in his inner sanctum) and hes a yes man. Ignorance is indeed bliss.

It seems to me that defining career coach is akin to a dynasty. Trying to emulate the likes of Bellamy or even spreading further like Sir Akex Fergussen at MU.

God help us if this is true!

No point even rhinking or imagining a new coach coming in like Maguire, Bennett ir even JD, it just wont happen in our factional world.

Sack McGregor, yes, but be prepared to start the Sack Young thread in its place.

They have managed to condition the players to accept this scenario and convince them that success is just around the corner.
There is a breed of player however who ruthlessly want to win silverware and don't go along with this "love the coach" BS.

It doesn't matter how you feel and if you accept it. It doesn't matter how I feel or if I accept it. Its a reality and for all of the negatives that you have listed above the club will find positives. You talk of the team getting booed off at Kogarah against the dogs and the club will talk of smashing the Broncos at a packed suncorp in the finals.
I think we are hamstrung by having a mediocre or poor coach but that isn't what our bunch of dinosaur directors think. They are more than happy with how we are going.
So my point to suck it up really just means don't expect anything other than yet another McGregor extension and dont even pretend that any other coach will be our headcoach anytime soon.
Depressing right?

I know that in 2019 all of us will be cheering our team after every win, but deep down we will be just waiting for the end of season collapse. History has a bad habit of repeating history.
But at least McIdiot will have the excuses ready next year. We lost LAM and Nightingale retired so we were down on experienced players.

Great post.

I don't care so much about the club thumbing its nose at us fans. That's a mere by-product of their incompetence, mismanagement and self-serving agenda. Fills me with anger and hate. And I can't for the life of me understand why any fan would in effect support this decrepit board by purchasing membership. You simply cannot carve out your support for the 'team' from that of the organisation.

It seems like Broncs will sign Seibold, Rabbits Bennett, Manly Hasler, Penrith Cleary and Tigs Maguire. Sure, Wests and Souths would prefer not to change their current head coach but they will be replaced by the best available. Meanwhile Dragons celebrate the 'success' of 2018 and wholeheartedly get behind Mary. Astonishing. Simply astonishing. No respectable, professional organisation would be run this way. Can't stand thinking about it.

I'm a footy fan. I enjoy watching football. I would be devastated if I couldn't watch the dragons play.
