Can anyone recall the timeline or announcements leading up to Price's sacking?
Our mob are creatures of habit so I bet the same path would be taken if Mcgregor was to be dumped?
It was not as late as Round 19..it was mid-late May after Eels smacked us on a Sat arvo. McGregor caretaker then we played Souths after a bye i think. I went to Hawaii for my 50th and googled the result of the Souths game in hope we won is why i so distinctly remember the timing

Don't hold your breath L33. Price, besides being a bad coach lost the loyalty of a key group of players. If there is one thing that Mary excells at, other than deflecting blame it is getting loyalty from his players in return for sticking by them regardless of on field performance. Club management obviously think this is more important than actual results and are happy for things to drift on as long as the ship sails on steadily. Unfortunately, somewhere ahead a large iceberg drifts silently in the gloom.

Just discussed on the Sunday Footy show...One commentator Said " Surely they have a performance based clause in his contract...its a results based business....they stated that we re- signed him far too early as there was no interest from other clubs....( which we all know ) They also said the club probably doesn't want to pay him out....This comment made me extremely angry....The board made a MONUMENTAL MISTAKE...how about they Garnish the Board members salary to pay McGregor out.....

A.Webster said " He likes the bloke BUT..McGregor has said that he has the squad he wants...he has only won 1 finals game in 5 years and its just not good enough ....

Maybe the squeaky wheels are starting to turn....Hopefully Souths put a cricket score on us and the pressure intensifies.....

But you know Gareth I will keep saying it. The cupboard out there is losing stock. the Super clubs that are cash strapped with 3rd party arrangements will constantly have the best squads (e.g. deals with betting agencies and TV). You see how much Tedesco is popping up on TV advertising lately.
They will buy and retain the better players but it is stretching thin. Roosters & Souths, Melb, Brisbane, Warriors and maybe Newcastle, Eels, Sharks? & Penrith are well funded.
Lets look at the teams who are looking and need to rebuild sectons of their rosters including depth and getting rid of a lot of current 1st graders to elsewhere.
Us, Tigers, Titans, Dogs, Manly, Eels, Cowboys..just for starters. If all the players that are supposed to be getting shipped out to god knows where or apparently not up to scrtach....
Where are all the replacement players going to come from?. No one wants reserve graders.
Super League is the only other as not enough junior talent to really fill the void.
Players via managers dont care..as long as they are getting 1st grade big $$$ somewhere around the globe. Talent can only go so far when junior numbers are dwindling

We are fastly becoming a NRL mimic competition to the Super League regardless of a so called even salary cap. NRL will be about a reduced 10 team survivor comp (forget the lower stuff and rest) the way we are going in time, how and where the money is spent by NRL to run and maintain 1st grade product to attract TV money.

Look at the Weidler article $15K spent on Cam Smiths posh 400 celebration dinner. What is wrong with hiring out a function room at a local hotel for 20% of that cost for 30 people including budget flights

Sunday rant over...off to do my thing for our club and CRL..and a few tit bits from the Mary coaching manual.
Have a good day all!

You are unfortunately very close to the mark on all counts BLMO1 and what is most disturbing is that they will eventually , at some stage in the not to distant future , do exactly as you have suggested reduce the number of teams .

It certainly does not take a rocket scientist to calculate which teams that would be in the firing line . Those that have been underperforming for several seasons and those which have financial difficulties , I believe that we qualify in both categories.

Unrealistic scenario snagging Bellamy but yes, if it was possible.
Of course you need a premier coach for a club that is supposed to be one of the iconic clubs in the comp.
But if we awake from the dream we can categorically dismiss Barrett and look at other contenders.
Jason Demetriou, Geoff Toovey and Craig Fitzgibbon would all be a massive upgrade on what we have now.
I say, take your pick. All three are excellent options.
My personal preference is Demetriou and I am pretty sure he has a clause in his contract with Souths that would make him available if a FG gig became available.
Toovey and Fitzgibbon are both available also.
Griffin, Henry, Smith, Sheens are all past their best and cannot take us to a premiership.
I also want to say that I don't accept the "rookie coach" argument because you just can't compare McGregor's credentials with either Demetriou or Fitzgibbon.
That appointment and two subsequent extensions have basically wasted 6 years of the clubs endeavours.
The other major consideration is what interference the Board will want to impart on a new coach.
Cleary cut off talks because of conditions being imposed.
For 2020 I think Cam Smith as head coach and Cooper Cronk/Barrett as assistants would give it a good shake.

So this review meeting is a complete piss take then?
Seriously, what the hell will they be talking about then?
Are they just going to say, you know we lost De Belin early, we had injuries with Widdop, Lafai, Graham and Lomax, that cost our team the season. Review done and dusted. Lets feel sorry for ourselves and blame injuries and external problems.
What an absolute joke!
Same old mediocre garbage from the useless management of this club.
McGregor is currently competing with Price for the worst season this club has had.
McIdiot has this team in spoon contention, and the fool keeps on saying yeah, but we made the finals last year, we were 85 minutes away from a grand final! That is in the past! This is 2019, and your team is running 3rd last!
I had some hope this board meeting would result in some change, but the board is a complete joke, and so is Johnson.
I would have much more respect if they admitted that they were wrong to re-sign McGregor so early in the season, and dismiss him from his duties.
I would have a truckload of respect if they said 'We got it wrong, Mary is gone'.
They simply don't want to embarrass themselves from probably the dumbest decision in NRL history to re-sign McGregor after round 6.
Virtually no club was going after him, he hasn't proved himself.
Jobs for the boys, that is what it is.
There is virtually no point of having this dumb review then. What a waste of a Tuesday afternoon for those fools.
Cannot believe this once great club can accept garbage like this.
For shame.
For shame.

A Farce...makes it look like they are taking some sort of investigative interest into why our season Failed....of course , it won't be McGregor's fault....probably another assistant coach to blame.........

No one is replacing McGregor. Those incompetent pieces of slime will never admit how monumentally stupid it was to prematurely re-sign a coach that not one other NRL club would be interested in.
They’ll deflect, they’ll “review”.
They’ll blame it all on an alleged rapist who is still allowed to turn up at training.
They’ll blame it on Widdop being injured.

They sure as hell won’t blame it on a coach who has “coached” us to having the worst defensive record in the premiership. They won’t blame a coach who can’t use the interchange properly. They won’t blame a coach that has one game plan.

If everyone accepts the Boards lame excuses, they will keep doing this year after year. They already have done this in the previous five years.

I feel that the way things are going with the NRL and the abuse of TPA’s we are heading to a two system, the haves, who will make the finals each and then we have the have nots, these teams cannot recruit the top players as they can’t bend the rules.
So the ladder will be two tiers, the haves, will always be in the top eight and the have nots will be stuck in the bottom eight.
The NRL still spews out that there is a level playing field. That’s not reality

The side has performed so poorly, it won’t be too hard to get a coach over as they are likely to get better results than Mary.

It would be an awful place to be at for the moment. There’s no progress or anything to look forward to, everyone under pressure.

I’d say the club needs a transition coach, a one year appointment and see what happens.

Neil Henry or Griffin are tough task masters, Green would be on the outer at the cows at the moment. Freddy or big Mal.

It's a premeditated spin and lip service exercise for the sake of the fans.
They had it all worked out when they extended McGregor but it has already backfired.
If we continue to perform poorly (and it sure looks that way), the media will jump on board and really stir the pot.
In my opinion, Johnston and the Board are painting themselves into a corner.
Fancy having a performance review is not a topic of discussion.
Again, this review may culminate in yet another patronizing snub of the fans.
"We know best>McGregor is the best man for the job>Shut up and keep stumping up your hard earned cash you idiot fans AND to all you "keyboard warriors", how dare you criticize the coach and the way we are running the club"
Disgraceful, unforgivable attitude towards the fans.
Johnston the Joke..

I’ve read nonsenses about sgi not being a good destination for accomplished coaches.

But the Mary record is so poor this year, it would be difficult to do worse, hence a good coach in cruise mode should do a lot better and 2020 considered a success all round.

That would tend to justify the impending outrageous suggestion that will be buried during the review that a coaching succession plan should be implemented.

The best review of course should be carried out externally by people not connected and without any vested interests.

Get ready for this.
After the review they will decide to employ the services of an assistant coach in Trent Barrett effective immediately.
Then they will be ready to slot Trent into the head coach role once the media goes too hard on McGregor and they have to act.
