I don't think he will ever be remembered as anything other than the worst coach that this club has ever had.Inspired by your take on it, thank you.
I can’t for the life of me understand, in any way, why any other thread exists in this entire sgi forum except for this one.
I will say more.
If you love the club and you are coaching it and it is failing, you throw in the effing towel and give someone else a shot.
You don’t ponce about looking depressed and making excuses...for years, killing off your few remaining supporters.
You do the right thing, admit that for whatever reason, the results aren’t there under your leadership and you resign.
You don’t have to blame anyone, you just leave and people will respect you for that. Then you can say in future years that had you stayed, something better may have happened with you and the team you crafted.
But when you cling on and on and on and things get worse and you get summarily dumped and sacked, it’s all over. You are an embarrassment, you are humiliated and you lose respect. People think you are a complete tool and hopeless. You had your go on your own terms, you got everything you asked for and you blew it. And you were so arrogant you failed to see it and had to be dragged away.
So Mary, just stand up for the club and the supporters and fall on your effing rusting sword while you still can. Mercy is on her way out the door Mary. Grab her arm son, leave together. Don’t head into the future alone.
Don’t spend the rest of your life being regarded as a selfish fool who can’t coach. Better to be regarded as someone who wasn’t right at the time, recognised it and left with dignity.
A much better story for the rsl in a few years instead of years of resentment of truth tellers.
That is what McGregor's legacy will be.
