A study of concentration where the rubber hits the road.

So far as I know, a good an honourable man.

An Uber elite player in his day approaching immortal status.

Could he lead the board uprising to save the club?

Will he die on his feet?
He is one of the biggest problems at the coaching level ..... He is calling a lot of the shots at the club .....

I honesty appreciate the education would like to know more.

As a player, I remember, he was on another level.

I don’t want to get into an argument about the immortals, but I think there are more worthy candidates across the ages. Players whose “ footprints” are still found in fields across our game Just like McVirus’s is in the club.

C’mon Silver you know just about everything there is to know about our illustrious club but you don't know much about our magnificent Albert?

Out of interest. Who is a worse coach than McGregor?
I can't think of one...

Well well well

After Waterboy watched Turnstile’s scintillating form in CC we’re back to the future with McAitken in the centres & Zac of course marginalised on the wing:

Predicted team:

“ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS

1. Matt Dufty 2. Jordan Pereira 3. Brayden Wiliame 4. Euan Aitken 5. Zac Lomax 6. Corey Norman 7. Ben Hunt 8. James Graham 9. Cameron McInnes 10. Paul Vaughan 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Tariq Sims 13. Blake Lawrie 14. Trent Merrin 15. Josh Kerr 16. Isaac Luke 17. Korbin Sims

Analysis: Korbin Sims and Cameron McInnes are expected to return along with Euan Aitken in the centres”

It’s back to the fuc/kin future for the Lovechild they tried to flog off & no one wanted a bar of

.....while Zac with the 5year contract loses fullback & is pushed to the wing to accommodate The Loved One

There’s your 2nd worst coach in 113 years in full flight

So who's the worst? I am asking because I am genuinely curious.

Apologies DP

I think I mentioned Wayne Pearce in an earlier post.
His best as far as my poor eyes could see was an 8th in 7 seasons - just pipping Andrew’s Waterboy

I don’t like mentioning him because I met him in Dubbo once, and he was just fantastic with the kids & a really likeable bloke

Our runner-up is a far more egotistical & destructive character - especially in his appalling treatment of our precious juniors

- for me personally, especially in his treatment of Zac & Reuben, who I’d always hoped to see paired in the centres.

Actually there’s a good interview with Reuben on the nrluniverse website
The kid is thriving under decent coaching (as most of our juniors would), scoring 16 tries & 65 goals to be 6th in the pointscoring in his debut season.

Whilst not directly equating them of course, Reg Gasnier also had a half decent rookie year:

“Rugby League Immortal centre Reg Gasnier enjoyed a meteoric rise during his 1959 rookie season, debuting for St George shortly before turning 20 and scoring four tries in a match against Wests in his fifth appearance, after which he was chosen for NSW. The prodigious talent was called up to make his Test debut after just one further first grade game, playing all three Tests against New Zealand; he scored a hat-trick in the second Test and a double in the third clash. Gasnier’s semi-final double against the Magpies helped the Saints into the Grand Final and took his season tally to 13, but he was ruled out of the decider by injury. That disappointment was tempered by his selection in the Kangaroo Tour squad, and he starred with 20 tries in 19 games. Gasnier played in all six Tests against Great Britain and France, scoring another hat-trick in the opening Ashes encounter.”

But of course our juniors will never get past the Aitken roadblock (that’s predicted to resurface Rd 3)

..... as long as Andrew’s Waterboy is throwing tantrums in the coaching box.

Sorry, but No 3 was sacred to us - & Aitken defiles it.

Mr Ryan Webb (pictured) arrives to manage the club in a most difficult period.

Ryan faces many extraordinary challenges that will take a super human effort to resolve.

So here are some good points about him!. Agree or not!

He is an outsider. He has zero favours to pay back. He does the boards bidding and everyone else ( including the coach) can go f**k themselves.

So far as anyone knows, he arrived at the club post review. In his recent official statement the amount of space he gave to the review was close to zip. He doesn’t hang his hat on it at all. That is a very good sign. We all know it was a joke and he seems to get that.

He arrives in your world of corporate parasites speaking their own hypnotic form of unintelligible psychobabble. His own statement, whilst not entirely clean, was not over the top with “player assets” and “deliverables”. P.I.G.S,. But an MBA works against him. They are not hard to finish, just expensive.

He finds like I have ( article to come) that the big fat contracts appear to be given to mates instead of open tender. That’s costly and not very commercial. It’s very suspect. He shouldn’t like that.

He openly mentioned “ change” and “engagement”. Maybe he will embrace the democracy represented by banner legends. Maybe he will say “ it’s ok to differ because we are a family” instead of the guns and knives pointed at you lot. Hopefully no more “ kill the infidels” that has been the order of the day for years.

I lost count of the number of times he “thanked” people. When was the last time boofhead thanked anyone? No, they are humiliated instead. That shows a good upbringing.

End of day, 90% of his statement was boring and meaningless, 5% alarming but 5% was real.

Does anyone remember bj being real? His watch was so depressing, even he couldn’t face it.

Thank you for reading.

Thanks LS - always forthright, always insightful.
In terms of our current centres it just destroys our great tradition.
So many great players with Reg Gasnier being the Prince.
Langlands made his name as a centre and even Billy Smith played there with distinction before he became a legendary halfback.
In recent times we had Beattie and Johnstone, Mark Gasnier and Cooper who presided over the 2010 premiership success.
It seems that those lofty standards have been decimated by a fellow who played for his country in that position.
Flogging the Aitkin horse and dicking Lomax around is only the tip of the iceberg.

If this guy really wants to succeed in his new role all he has to do is listen to the fan base.
Fans are always engaged even if their team is going badly.
Maybe Ryan is the man for the job.
The truth will set St.George free!
BJ was a non event. What a waste of time.
Left us in worse shape than when he arrived.

I agree.

TruSaint thought my earlier criticism of Ryan may have been a bit premature and the jury was still out.

I cut some slack for Gerard Murphy and the cats because whatever the grand plan, he didn’t get a full season of engagement and his on going honesty sessions may have turned things around ( although was their was talk of violent and bitter argument).

Linespeed seems to argue that because Ryan is answerable to the board and the board are f**ked, logic dictates he will only do their bidding.

The irony is that TruSaint doesn’t depart from this poor assessment of the board one iota.

They are both right.

So the only hope in Ryan is whether or not he can steer the board into something approaching reality. A secret agenda even. Slow and steady de-maryfication of the club.

If he can’t talk sense into them, he won’t be effective and be just another snout in the trough.

That trough is getting shallower. If I was a sponsor I’d be beyond furious with this crew.

Have my brand associated with the demeaning treatment of fans, members and now players?!

Times are tough, money is getting harder to get. Wtf are Mary and the board doing? Note Ryan big on naming and praising sponsors. That was good.

Although I have never been on a board I've certainly had a lot to do with them having been a member of senior management.
I was watching a Bloomberg interview today and a Norwegian guest described the Board and how to handle them - he summed it up in two words - The Budget.
Control the budget and you control the board.

Probably why McGregor is still there.

Dont worry
Warriors will beat us on emotion and as are now everyone's pet and sentimental favourite
Titans well...Holbrook will have to break the duck sometime...might as well be The Dragons
Bulldogs - will lift and rally to owe us a big one after last year
Tigers- we could not even beat them In Round 1 when they handed it to us on a platter..+ they will have Brooks back.

Dont get the Furlough Marydo
In the words of the great Pauline...please explain!

Hey mate

Furlough in the states is when the boss calls you in and says to take a short break and usually you don't come back = get fired by email or over the phone whilst at home - box is packed and shipped home to you.

MacDo - now living in the Philippines after 20 years in the states (currently on furlough) - the Filipinos call MacDonalds MacDo

So I just combined the two FURLOUGH MACDO

Anyway old mate will go back to the original and therefore SACK MCGREGOR

Yes, that’s a good point.

But no ceo could possibly talk up the mess the club is in. He mentioned coaching and I think that was deliberate. He’s not a diplomat and I prefer plain language, but even 5% of acknowledgment of how bad things are is better than the white-out of bj.

When the players spoke out for Mary, that was really something. The message there was clearly that he can’t handle the job.

DAN NICHOLS - WHAT IF WEDNESDAY - ZERO TACKLE

https://www.zerotackle.com/what-if-wednesday-what-nrl-2020-wasnt-delayed-due-to-covid-19-54800/

Again, as with previous What if Wednesday articles, this is purely speculation. We’ve picked winners from each game across each round however haven’t given exact scores or taken mass injuries, suspensions etc into account.

It’s purely speculation and for fun. Please let me know below how you believe your side would have gone if the game was not forced into delay.

We’re assuming all games were played behind closed doors and that the off-field circumstances of the past few weeks didn’t occur.

ROUND 3

– The Roosters secure their first win of the season defeating the Bunnies
– The Sharks are also on the board with a win over the Ponga-less Knights
– Canberra remain undefeated
– The Eels drop their first game to the well rested Cowboys

ROUND 4

– The Bunnies rebound and beat the Storm, ending their unbeaten start to the season
– The Warriors shock the Tigers
– The Raiders beat Manly in the game of the round
– The Titans and Dogs remain winless

ROUND 5

– The Tigers rebound and beat the Eels in a heated matchup
– The Dragons beat the Warriors
– The Broncos and Cowboys play the game of the season with the Broncs pipping them late on
– Canberra lose their first game of the year to Penrith
– The Roosters go three straight, beating the Sharks

ROUND 6

– The Cowboys beat the Storm
– Brisbane continue their great start with a win over Cronulla
– The Tigers beat another rival in the Panthers
– Manly put the Titans to the sword

ROUND 7

– The Tigers good run ends as the Titans record their first win
– The Dogs beat the travel weary Cowboys and join the Titans with their first win
– Manly continue their amazing run against the Sharks, beating them again
– Newcastle and Penrith play out a draw with Newcastle winning in golden point
– The Roosters win their fifth straight

ROUND 8

– The Sharks beat the Tigers in a dour affair
– The Raiders win their seventh game out of eight
– The Eels beat the Warriors
– Manly beat Brisbane in a cracker
– The Roosters drop their first game in six to the Cowboys

VERDICT

Based on calculated results (with minimal points +/- taken into account) the below is how I saw the season progressing. This is where we would be today.

LADDER

1.Raiders: 14
2. Eels: 12
3. Storm: 12
4. Broncos: 10
5. Roosters: 10
6. Tigers: 10
7. Manly: 12
8. Bunnies: 10
9. Panthers: 10
10. Knights: 8
11. Cowboys: 8
12. Sharks: 6
13. Dragons: 2
14. Dogs: 2
15. Warriors: 2
16. Titans: 2

Would he still have a job if this was real?

Would he still have a job if this was real?

lol, well at least he rates the raiders.

Assuming the game doesn’t come to a shuddering halt after three rounds.

Started my sgi review homework tonight, surprise surprise Mary was talking about reflecting and learning from it upon release. Not rookies again. Mary, I’m confused?!

Your mediation guy is a tie-wearing surfer who lives in the shire, low and behold he has a connection with Matt Elliot and some fat corporates. We all know Matty fancies himself as head of the nrl. Peace, love and real estate.

Management by Design has been established for ages, a rich history of a long and illustrious 5 years, and a couple of similarly named companies deregistered along the way.

Your Gerard Murphy did a spell for our sworn enemy (AFL) in Europe. Chairman of the AFL in Europe. 300,000,000 people and he couldn’t get a team together. Just kidding, it was probably a massive junket. I want that job.

His CV didn’t mention he was sacked by the cats, only that he worked for them. That’s an impressive “representation“ in a resume.

That is gold plate spin. Take notice Mary!

But his lectures ( you can find them) talk about honesty?!

Spin by design?

A few of you boys are laughing at me for thinking the sgi and bj would check his resume!

Webby sure has his work cut out for him. Every day he must uncover something..... disturbing.

Well we know who controls the budget & we also know that the following Board members:

Ralph
Peter
Andrew x2
Craig
& Graeme

Must bear responsibility for the Club’s predicament & thus Ryan’s
“most difficult period”

....as it’s been so euphemistically deflected
(It’s Armageddon in reality)

If it’s money that talks then you must speak to the trashed membership, merchandising & attendance income courtesy of your much treasured
Waterboy

...& not the Benefactor’s honeypot.

Get off your arses & do your job

Sack him and the money & love will pour in

Surely you are all sane men?

Why oh why do you carry the cross for him?
Why are you sacrificing the Club on the altar of his ego?

Well Ryan needs to sell The Waterboy financial deficit impact to perhaps some of the potentially more receptive
& less tonedeaf Boardmembers

... like Peter, Ralph & Graeme perhaps?

....& maybe there’s even an emerging chink in the Fox
& SOO Oldboys Waterboy Cheersquad

.... as they consider the
diminished reputational legacy
of their cowered support for Andrew’s Waterboy’s 2020 quest for The (now inevitable) Spoon

C’mon Andrew Lancaster - you too can start the ball rolling?

The cards can only fall in the Club’s favour

Anything but status quo & no status

as Murphy’s trying to push shite uphill ATM

It’s a concern that the board re signed and retained him.

It cannot be based upon performance or results and the hiring of experts etc and a premiership winning coach as an assistant suggests they lack a fundamental faith in him.

All I can suggest now is that the majority of the board are held captive by emotional concerns as there is no objective reason to keep him.

There have been a number of human service sacrifices made along the way. I am not sure if anybody has quantified the economic losses so occasioned.

Getting away from sponsors and memberships, behold, there’s been tens and maybe hundreds of millions of dollars blown on players alone who have not reached their optimum. This continues unabated as the early 2020 rounds illustrated. The self implosion in both games suggests the side is playing worse than last year..certainly mentally fragile and Marys cure lost you an elite captain. Not the best remedy with an entirely predictable horrific outcome.

That he foolishly stated that he finally had the team he wanted last year and they only just avoided to spoon, suggests the task is well and truly beyond him.

The board look the other way for emotional reasons and that seems to be the only conclusion possible.

If that’s the case they have no alternative but to stand themselves down on moral, ethical and ‘professional’ grounds - to name a few.

It must be quite taxing for them defending the indefensible at social functions & in the private realms of their own conscience.

How do they sleep on a lie at night?

....with the 2nd worst coach in rugby league history newly ‘bedded down’
for another year’s failure
