What would have suggested the new CEO say in his press release ?

Im not having a go at you, just not sure what else one can say when he has just arrived at the Club. He is the CEO, employed and chosen by the BOD. He is in no position to unilaterally terminate Mary. His release was typical of any CEO wanting to reach out to fans, with a bright message.

He will, like all senior exec's , be judged by his performance.

Im sure he has a view on the coach, but any suggestion that his priority is to remove Mary in such turbulent times is outside of his purvey.

I take your point in fair comment.

When I was writing about it, I had in mind that I would critique what he was submitting, his topic areas. His acknowledgment of the hostile on line environment offset by “adoring fans”
That acknowledgment, it was a bit risqué for a new ceo.

There were some other things he said that suggest a better balance. I will concede that.

But I dont have any doubts that at this time, he has no option but to toe the line.

One thing you and I have agreed upon and a point which @LINESPEED quite rightly reminds everyone a few times a day is that the entire, whole and complete responsibility for the retention of Paul McGregor lies in the hands of the Board of Directors and nobody else.

They are ultimately responsible and vicariously liable for his continued tenure and all failures related to his position.

That there does not appear to be a concerted effort to remove the board is amazing. Perhaps there is but I am not aware of any. It desperately needs to be subject to some kind of pressure and the post Mary world looks bleak so long as they have the reigns.

But It is a good idea to try to extract some good points about the ceo from the Anti-Mary position and I will give it a go!

Not only do I agree that the Mary saga lies at the feet of the board, I have posted numerous times that any venting should be aimed at that direction.

Is Mary incompetent ? We all know he is, however he is not self employed. Any thought that he would honourably fall on his sword and walk should have been dismissed years ago.

All good.

I have copied and pasted the following which appears in the Foxsports news report on "purity" saying that our score is 14th compared to the Storm's 1st.

"Linking a player’s salary with his talent rather than his experience is crucial. Targeting gun rookies and moulding them into a ‘Wollongong’ culture is the key. That Wollongong culture cannot be a collage of imported experience.

The Dragon’s fan base have forged a reputation as the most demanding supporters in the competition. From ‘Save our Saints’ to ‘Oust Doust’, their passion is only rivalled by their own unique identity.

Perhaps their recruitment team can take a lesson from that."

Well Andrew, as Waterboy’s benefactor & No 1 supporter, you may find this extract an interesting adjunct to what this Forum has been telling you for years:

“Paul McGregor’s squad currently has the highest total of overall experience with 2484 NRL appearances across their roster. Yet only 1167 of these games were actually played in the red V, meaning the squad has a very low team purity score of 47%. Their 2019 team purity score was even worse at 41.41%, which unsurprisingly led them to a second last position on the ladder.

Their roster strategy favours the importing of experienced high-profile players. These injury-prone and now civilised family men do not add to the identity of the team, but rather dilute it with their external experience, leading to poor on-field results.

In contrast, the Melbourne Storm have always maintained a pure team, scarcely recruiting expensive big names. The team instead commits to retaining its own experience, and recruits cohorts of talented rookies who can be moulded into the team’s unique identity. Their team purity score of 86% positions them to be a cohesive team, with long-held relationships, and more likely to adhere to a coaching strategy distinct as their own”

. ...Namely that (just reading between the lines & simplifying it for your Board)

.....that your man does journeymen not juniors

....therein lies the team schism

He feels safer with older players both politically, personally & ‘professionally’ (& I use that word loosely with him)

So buying precoached players (unfortunately with widely differing takes on the game)
masks a coaching deficiency that cannot be hidden with juniors.
Thus they are isolated, undeveloped, ignored, misplaced & marginalised because he cannot relate to OR coach them.

And the above is just one of his glaring weaknesses.

He’s in for a very hard time as increasing scrutiny like the above will bear down more savagely as the Bookies’ prediction of The Spoon approaches

If he’s your true friend, look out for him, relieve him of the pain & give us back our Club

You can't beat the mega rich. Until they say to mary , look son you've had 7 years and it's just not working out, you'll have to step down and let someone else have a go. Go fire up the BBQ.....and keep the ice cold......we'll keep paying you. (By the way funny name for a son )

Ricky is a top line coach. Excellent communicator. He takes ordinary and solid players, brings them up a couple of levels, they play like a team.

Their recruitment is outstanding,

I don’t hear Ricky describing players as being “assets” like Mary. The club is not run like multinational hedge fund lender as sgi aspires to do.

CNK is poised to be one of the best players in the modern era. His mobility on the paddock is amazing

The Canberra side dont have anywhere near the scrutiny and pressure of sgi. They are confident and they enjoy their footy.
I agree. But his record prior to 2019 was being questioned big time by many after his stint at Parramatta

Andrew Gordon is without doubt the key to Waterboy’s retention or sacking.

He is the Chairman of The Board

He is Mc113’s friend
He has the Club’s financial back

All you can do is place the stats forcefully before him &/or hope Ryan lays bare the facts & lets them speak for themselves

..... then wonder aloud about Andrew’s continued capacity for public & corporate humiliation as his team jostles for The Spoon again

This is a results-driven industry, so decision making should be simple, unless you’re dabbling in self-abuse

Again, as the apparent financial whizz & CEO, Ryan is in the best position to pressure Andrew & the Board

(as perhaps a new & supposedly quasi independent voice in the Gould-driven New Age)

..... re the disastrous effects Waterboy’s tenure is having on memdership, attendances,
merchandising & corporate attractiveness

.... so his statistical & financial leverage and purported corporate experience is crucial one would think

....as Andrew’s capacity to act appears hamstrung & blinded by
friendship

As Ryan has said,
(and we can only repeat it and try to follow through on the logic)

Without members there is no Club

Mega rich doesn’t mean mega smart it would seem?

And Graham Murray set him up nicely at the chooks and Gus was there too.... So really Stuart is nearly a myth like Mary bar the 2019 GF

I gotta respectfully disagree, not because I like or respect him as a person either.

The Canberra side were resilient and dominant last year.

Ricky’s response at the official ruining the gf was composed and professional.

Their recruitment was the best in the league ( no dragging an Adam Douhi or Issac Luke into the squad and pretending they will turn things around).

Running one-out takes courage. Looks like tv, but it was live. Gotta laugh at the tiges defensive line. Panic at one player coming forward! You can sense the gaps emerging for the next play. Belted into the next world in that game. The Canberra fans drum is annoying. You know you want to put it through the guys head like I wanted to.

If Mary had lost the grand final per Ricky, it would be the ultimate excuse. Ricky’s surprise display of humility and human dignity in defeat must have crushed McTraceApp inside

A study of concentration where the rubber hits the road.

So far as I know, a good an honourable man.

An Uber elite player in his day approaching immortal status.

Could he lead the board uprising to save the club?

Will he die on his feet?

Well let’s just say the tide’s gone out & the jetski’s beached & barnacled in The Gong & painted & plastered with seagull crap LOL

But let’s just do the housekeeping first:

Day 29
Ryan Webb

How the time flies when you’re busy spinning & ‘bedding down’
the 2nd worst coach in Rugby League history for his 7th year crack at The Spoon

....as the protesting 10,000 ex members watch on in horror, credit cards poised, waiting for you to act

- ready to join the RedV again & give you a marketing & merchandising bonanza

ONCE WATERBOY’s SACKED

- or even gently moved sideways running the cones

And you won’t need the shrinks, meditators & image junkets

- or even Mr Murphy’s motivational crap:

“Mr Murphy was summarily sacked by the Geelong cats prematurely for allegedly causing extreme player discord, discomfort and disharmony. Some players were very critical of his style and behind the scenes tactics.”

...and you could chuck the coaching zimmerframers, & entourage of assistants too -

... hell yeah - all the Media spin machines could also take a well earned breather with him gone

FMD
Phil, Kenty, Hoops & Lozza could keep a straight face for real -

& there’d be the end of his interminable texting

Fuc/k I wish I could draw a cartoon.
Just to do a picture of all the above farce in one frame

- with poor beleaguered friend Andrew at the top pulling the tangled strings of his Puppet Show

... & a slothfully inebriated Board thrown in there somewhere trying to count & decipher the stats

He’s sacked in all but title,

Our accidental coach

- who’s havin’ a real good look in the mirror this mornin’:

Out of interest. Who is a worse coach than McGregor?
I can't think of one...

The perusal of the stats of 300 coaches gives us a technical answer

.... and while I don’t wish to cast aspersions on Phantom’s Club, I could suggest that our man has a good 15 points operational IQ deficit that might indicate he does in fact have a long sought after title

....which I’m thinking

Ryan Webb on
DAY 30

....might convey to Andrew
as he presents him (again) with the financial repercussions of an unsacked friend

Steven Kearney is a worse coach than Mary...by his record

You could well be right in many respects BLM01

I used RugbyLeague Project for the stats and Waterboy’s 139 games as the yardstick

- which meant I only included longterm coaches who’ve coached 139 games or more ( I think there’s been around 57 - and I think Kearney’s only coached 118 games).

The other determinant was their best finishing position on the ladder after finals appearances etc over the 113 years of rugby league history

Obviously our lad’s best was 7th. (2nd worse overall).
Quite a shocking result for Andrew & the Board to consider in their determination of his performance.

I might’ve made an error or two, but I did my best
I love our Club & will do all I can to reclaim it
