The club graded E, and the side that’s taken everyone by surprise: NRL Report Cards

DRAGONS

Ladder position: 12th (2-0-5)

Results (Rd 1 to now): LLLLWWL

Expectation vs reality: It’s a similar scenario to the Sharks. On paper, this Dragons team should be doing so much better than they are. Although if you ask some Red V fans they were never going to fly high in 2020. Rounds 1 and 2 were bad for coach Paul McGregor and his men. Then when the season resumed, Rounds 3 and 4 were ugly. They didn’t score a try in either of those matches, they looked unenthused and stuck in a rut. McGregor was under the hottest of fires and speculation grew of what was really going wrong at the club. Finally, in Round 5, changes were made and they paid dividends. With a reshuffle of the spine, the Dragons recorded their first win … and then their second. They lost to the Roosters last weekend but came up with their most put together performance in a long time. It’s a step in the right direction but a lot of uncertainty still surrounds the club. Jack de Belin’s case is currently playing out. James Graham is off to the Super League and one young gun asked for a release, with another one expected to follow in his footsteps.

Cameron McInnes dives over for a trySource: AAP
The star: Cameron McInnes. It’s impossible to fault his effort and the St George Illawarra faithful should be proud of their captain for consistently turning up no matter how dull things may be. Despite being a first choice hooker, McInnes puts the team first and willingly shifts to lock to allow Ben Hunt to shine in his best position at the moment. It’s that type of commitment to the team and winning attitude — as well as his consistent form — that makes him the Dragons’ most valuable player. An honourable mention also goes to Matt Dufty who really came alive when he pushed his way back into the squad. Now he needs continue with that exciting brand of footy week-in, week-out.

Needs to lift: The rest of the team. Ben Hunt is on the right track since dropping back as a bench utility but we need to see more from the likes of Corey Norman and Tyson Frizell.

Grade: C

Yes agree with D.

But also agree with comments on Cam, and the 3 that need to do more.

Agree with all that but I reckon there’s other forwards that need need a big lift especially ones with a lot of experience like Merrin and KSims they are not adding any impact And for me are past their used by date
Frizz is being hardly judged because I see him running one of the hardest out of the big men Along with Tyrell and Blake Lawrie.
Paul Vaughan whilst does a lot of work I think needs to get deeper and get up more speed like he was a year or two ago
Frizz is going back to old habits of going one out and back in the middle he needs to stay out wide and run straight And look for offloads inside and outside him

There's a kind of cruel satisfaction watching the Broncos and Seibold train wreck . Talk of bringing in Kevin Walters as his assistant, and now reports that no performance clause was included in his contract- making his sacking more expensive, recruitment failures, etc.

How about we offer Mary as his assistant. Now!

Was Millward trying to explain that becoming a transition club for Issac Luke was recruitment genius?

Actually, sgi public relations got hold of it and gave the “good bye” task to Luke who thanked the club for the 3 plus months he spent on your dollar, preparing for Brisbane.

Sold to the masses as family reasons.

A sickening public farewell kiss to McVictorianOutbreak as well. Ruined his legacy.

A supposed backup for Cam who is about the only sgi player playing at 1000 miles per hour and doing close to the work of two players, every single game...and is thereby more likely to be injured again.

At this rate, I’d say Cam is better than even chances of another season ending injury, because he poses the biggest threat to all opposition teams. They look out for him. Not his fault either.

Offering Overs to Suli was another high brow concept. But To be fair, he’s a bit of a dog for being public about it. He needs a bit of an on field shortening up for snitching.

Yep it was time to go back to the land of the long white cloud and family when he left the rabbits, now it's time to go to Brisbane for family reasons.

Yep....and I think the younger Issac gave the same excuse when he joined the rabbits from Christchurch United or where ever he played.

Never has the one nrl player had so many family members living so close to their next club. Uncanny.

As for Suli, I think Millward should make these player agent filth sign a non-disclosure agreement about negotiations because Suli and his godless management had its dark way with you.

The big tool was quoted as saying he stayed with Manly for less, talking himself up and how great Manly was...but only after the deal was done.

There was just no reason to put you guys down for his own self promotion and to be popular with the trash that attend that public toilet of all nrl stadiums - brookvale.

And it’s not in the game today, but not so long ago, his selfish efforts of contributing to your already difficult overs situation would have imposed a penalty of at least a broken arm during the next game he played against you.

But not on McCaretakers watch.

And where’s Webby spearing him in the press as a characterless moron denying he was offered anything greater than beer money?!

No, his damaging comments were met with nothing but a respectful silence.
