Graeme Hughes on Talkin Sport 2SM offered an interesting analysis of the Dragons attack recently. He effectively blamed Widdop (but the buck stops with the coach) for the lateral attack which modern defences just drift with and eat up. Supporting that analysis is that a lot of our tries are scored in the corner (poor old Gareth and the difficult conversions) He suggested we need to straighten our attack up. Maybe with Dufty trailing through( like Billy Slater) off storming runs from Vaughan, Frizz and co, this might happen. Wonder if Mary reads these forums?

Yep.

He is a knob

Thank god this WILL be his final season, or half season.

Somewhere between April & June l’m hearing.

Maybe we should have a ‘Pin the date on the Donkey’ thread?

You can only vote once and no two members can vote on the same date.

I was going to say, April 1 but that may be a bit premature........ so l’ll say Friday April 13th .... after the local derby game with the Nulla Narks.

Because the Storm were playing for a trophy. We were playing to prepare for the season. It was noted in the pre-match discussion that we had not tapered our training off this week so that the players were entering the match under fatigue as a fitness exercise.

Feels weird to say, but I'm with Crush on this one - the actual result and things like our energy levels etc are not to be taken seriously at this point. Next week is a different story. As I said, I'm more concerned about the adaptation of certain youngsters to the speed of first grade and the fact that our attacking structures dont seem to have changed from 2013.
Yes this happened last year, & that excuse was used after our lack lustre trials including the Charity shield. My question is, what happens when the taper has worn off after round 6 ???

Hughes is right and while everyone waxes lyrical about Widdop, he has been at the centre of the problem for the last 3 years playing behind one of the better packs in the comp.
So until now, his halves partners have been to blame and the lack of "stability" in the halves.
Now he has a top shelf halfback to combine with in Hunt.
Let's see if he is able to show his "bottomless talent" in 2018.
Personally, I think he finds it difficult to combine with any halves partner.
It is no coincidence that Bennett preferred to play him at FB in the WC
With our pack of forwards a 5/8 like Maloney, Morgan or Green would put us into contention for a title..
Oh, BTW - he is also not up to captaining the side. Poor choice by McGregor from the outset.

That is great news OKB1 , even if it was only a pleasant dream , by the way did this dream also tell you who the new coach will be ?

Bellamy to stay at the Storm , with Green resigning with the Cowboys and Hasler taking a long South Seas holiday with plenty of spending money ( courtesy of Bullgrubs ) .

That narrows the field considerably as far as the grey matter for coaching ability is concerned .

1000% Widdop has been the major issue how our attack has gone !

The evolution of McGregor's coaching style
NRL.com's Steve Turner chats to St George Illawarra Dragons coach Paul McGregor on how he has evolved as a coach

https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/02/21/the-evolution-of-mcgregors-coaching-style/
Can someone explain why the fans have to sit through 3 years of McGregor's coaching apprenticeship?
I couldn't give two hoots about how he has developed as a coach.
The FG squad needed a FG caliber coach every season - I am tired of rationalization and excuses and hearing that McGregor loves coaching and is passionate about it.
Every current FG coach would say the same thing.
I want us to have a solid coaching regime that will match wits with the best in the comp and compete every single week. Not stumble and bumble through the season like amateur hour.
I also question this little journalistic cameo.
Turner is not exactly your intellectual, hard hitting NRL journo asking the hard questions.
Gave a queue to McGregor to talk about himself and then gave his personal "verdict" at the end.
Looked staged to me with little or no journalistic merit involved.

The sooner the better.
Though they will give him around 14 to 16 weeks of POOR results.... UNLESS we lose the first 8 to 10 games.

16 weeks, so about the end of June.

But.....I am hoping we go well, make the top 4, then we can all rest easy.

Agree widdop is a crab.

But Mary's job is to tell him to change it. ..or welcome to nsw cup.

I still stand beside the thoughts that say widdop is a fullback, not an organiser, nor a leader of men.

If he was our fullback and played like he did for England, I would welcome him.

Not knocking Dufty though.

But ya can't have a number 6 thinking the sideline is a good place to run to.

Stuffs up the whole attack.

Mary... Tell him.

But I guess you won't.

All righty then ............. so that leaves us with a very likely replacement with better skills than Mary.

He ain't no dud, vote Elmur Fudd !
