I wrote today to Paul Kent on his blog and asked him to name the 14 other coaches interviewed and to actually confirm these coaches were actually interviewed.

No reply except a reply from an online comment that said considered rather than interviewed.

Geez we must be fools to be led up the path with this club. I can’t believe the rubbish said has turned me off the club and that I never thought would happen

Many years ago I changed my wedding day just so it does not conflict with a dragons game. Wonder if any board or McGregor supporters think of the fans.

Most polls I have seen are around 75/25 in favour of firing him. The 25% is from non-Dragons fans surely.

Probably, at the start, we all felt ok about you going down the kazhi but now it’s a kind of sympathy and like you guys, we hate lies and excuses from officials.

Mary is just a product of inept management who grossly disrespect their fans, They seem hell bent on driving their club into oblivion.

The sharks fans probably keep voting for him.

Just watched James Graham on NRL...hes right in McGregors corner.....Kent asked him what the problem was in the team and he said its everybody's collectively its not the coaches fault he prepares us well, he knows his footy (or words to that effect) he gives us a good game plan...his door is always open to suggestions when we think this is wrong or thats not working blah blah blah..........well if thats the case Jimmy whos fault is it then because McGregors the bloke that picks the team every week...so if its not his fault then it must be the players so therefore how come he hardly drops any one and we are 3rd from the bottom. .....I tell you if anyone thinks the imposter is going to be replaced think again....hes got everyone bluffed trust me

This is how the Dragons considered 14 other possibilities;
Bellamy - under contract, no cross him off the list
Bennett - ditto
the did this for about 10 other main NRL coaches under contract
Then No's 13 & 14 would have been Hormby & Young
Yep process over..Mary is best person for the job. They forget to say "only person" based on the status quo of others they considered.
The journos and Dragons senior officials are the masters of spin and deflection

I'm just going to say what I am thinking regarding those ladder places.

Successful by Illawarra standards.
Diabolical by St George standards.
Except that this happened under a St george controlled board.

Whether you accept it or not, this is acceptable by the St George Dragons standards.

Mediocrity should not be condoned by who ever is in charge we are here because it hurts eyes on the prize ,change the hierarchy.

Gus says travel fatigue,it was an excuse well back in the 60s when teams travelled to Penrith to play the chocolate soldiers and got beaten that was cited then maybe instead of Gould he should change his name to McFly.

Paul McGregor should get job ahead of Wayne Bennett: St George Illawarra Dragons director
By Brad Walter
July 17, 2014
St George Illawarra director Sean O'Connor has spoken out in support of caretaker coach Paul McGregor being appointed to the job full-time and believes he would be a better option than Wayne Bennett.
While Dragons chief executive Peter Doust is expected to meet with Bennett in coming days, O'Connor's comments demonstrate the seven-time premiership winning coach would not be the first choice of everyone at the club...

‘‘I’d really support Paul McGregor to coach the St George Illawarra Dragons and to lead us into a new and exciting era,’’ O’Connor told The Illawarra Mercury.
...O'Connor - one of four Illawarra directors on the eight-member St George Illawarra board - decided to publicly back McGregor in the Mercury and other Wollongong media...

‘‘I can easily see, having been involved with him at the [Illawarra] Cutters, that he could easily be the next supercoach.’’

More: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/pa...llawarra-dragons-director-20140717-zu4lw.html

Of course St George board members should share the blame, and at the very least they should have put O'Connor back in his box. But their attitude is not the same as the St George Dragons management I supported prior to the JV.

That said, the initial appointment of McGregor came as a result of support on the Illawarra side of the board.

Sure, Illawarra are not blameless. And thankfully O'Connor has been deposed by the WIN ownership.

My point is that having a majority St George Board, and then not sacking, and in fact extending McGregor, is at the very least tacit approval from St George. If they actually had higher standards they couldn’t have let this slide.

One more indication that Graham has had too many knocks to the head.
He should retire because he's taking up valuable cap space and impeding a young forward from stepping into FG.
All this pseudo support is because theplayers depend on their pay cheque.

I don't blame Graham for this. He is honourable and a leader. He respects his chain of command, and would likely never bag his coach publicly. But this just goes to show how culpable the board is. They have guys being loyal and defending the indefensible. Time to step up.

Well, he can’t come out and publicly bash the coach. Unless of course he is looking to be sacked...
