From what I can gather the 'privilege' is that he is not being rushed into a decision, not that there's a contract extension just sitting there if he wants it. Small difference and not great either way but probably not as bad as it could be construed.

Anyway it sounds like he's probably gonna go to England, which is good.

Really? Man, I wish I could read it that way. When Matt talks about there being a lot of options for Kurt to consider that makes it pretty obvious to me that one of those options is staying another year or two and the management are going to leave that decision up to him.

Even leaving that aside though, how f**king incompetent can you get? Even admitting that letting Kurt take so much time to make a decision will impact on recruitment plans. I don't care if you've played here for 2 seasons or 20, no player is above the club and it's clear as day that we're letting Kurt take his time (and maybe worse, stick around) at the expense of the rest of the squad. No other club in the history of sport would allow that to happen. Absolutely ridiculous.

Well I was wrong, our recruitment is based on popularity. Another 500K plus for Uate next contract. Yay!

Popularity or nepotism?

Even with the general Knights fans you see frequenting SM it seems everyone knows it's Gidley's time to go...

I actually can't get over how ridiculous this is. This is embrassing even for us. We've become worse than Canberra in terms of blokes in high places f**king over the team to look after family.

Yeh, this is how i read it....

Which (if correct) is not actually a bad way to treat the bloke from a PR perspective (given he is a club legend and a popular figure).

If he is seen to make the decision, we can give him a big happy fairwell and everyone will cry and it will be great. If he's seen to be pushed out (knight withdraw the offer) we could get protests and boycotts, like we did in 2007.

Id personally rather the former, even if in truth its bullshit and he was just canned....

Both.

I can't stand people worrying about the backlash there may be from moving on blokes who have been well looked after, way too long.

I fear the size and length of the contracts we are going to hand out to a few blokes who should be shown the door.

The decision should absolutely be cold and calculated, but the PR needs to be done right as well.

Im not saying i know it to be correct, but if they are pushing him out this is exactly how they should be doing it!!

It doesnt matter this media excersize makes the cynical fans among us a bit pissy for a few weeks; we'll get over it, the "Gidley can do no wrong" fans wont get upset and the final effect is the same.

I dont have faith that our admin will do the right thing and move him on. I certainly pray that they will though

I just want it over with so i can either rejoice or get angry and move on

In all seriousness though Gids is a long-serving player. For everything he's given the club he deserves to announce his future in his own time.

It's really our backwards management that's pissing me off here.

I read it as Gids getting to decide what he wants to do which includes asking for another contract.

Its absurd that an employee gets to make that call on his employer.

Long serving player or not, the club needs to decide on the best way to move forward as players may not always have the clarity of thought to determine whats best for club vs. whats best for them.

There does seem to be a rising tide of frustration within the wider community, I base that comment on the fact that I am seeing increasing levels of negative comments against Herald articles and in increasing numbers.

There used to be little or none, now the major are critical.

I actually think the club isn't reading the wider sentiment very well.

I am not even insulting the man...but mentally, he is just not upto the mark as an NRL first grade footballer.
He may be fit as a fiddle...but he is a basket case mentally. Has a decision been made on him? He must move on.

The club needs to f**king draw a line in the sand and tell Kurt he's not in our future plans, the performance today was Paul Carige like

Right now he's odds on to get another deal.

He will go away and say that he still thinks he can contribute and they will offer him a 2 yr deal.
