Just as long as you stop picking Aussies.

Yeah....

State of Origin should have nothing to do with Kiwis (by that I mean, they should not be playing in Origin, either for NZ or for NSW or QLD.) I am happy to agree with that.

That's why I think the people who should be the most pissed off about Tamou's selection (and the possibility of Kasiano etc) is Aussies. These sort of selections pervert Origin.

Tamou and Kasiano should simply, out of common sense, not have an option to play for an Australian state or for the Kangaroos.

Pete, the Aussies you mention...Webb, Fien etc...should, no doubt, not be playing for New Zealand. And New Zealand loses any footing they had in the debate by selecting them. And, it's a poorer standard of player who chooses to play for New Zealand to play international football despite not being good enough to cash in and play Origin, versus the Kiwi who cashes in on the fact that they migrated to Australia (generally to play Rugby League) and they farcically and scandalously qualify to play Origin, even if this means that they don't get to play for their preferred nation...you know, the one whose blood actually runs through their veins.

It's an affront to Origin as well as being an insult to international Rugby League.

So what exactly does "origin" refer to then? I was under the impression it was the state in which a player played in the junior grades but I might just be saying that because of the player bio things before the game. Obviously that could be a massive grey area anyway.

The old rule was where a player played their first senior game after they turned 16.

New rules are more involved. Criteria includes birth place and where junior club was plus more

a hell of alot more australian raised players with dual eligiblity choose their heritage or birth country over nsw/qld/aus. it is an absolute myth that origin forces all of these players to abandon "their coutries" for cash or glory. yes, a couple have done so which is wrong, uate simply should not be allowed to play for nsw or australia as he was a current fijian test player but we need stricter rules regarding nation swapping alongside a fairer international schedule for developing nations and this nonsense will end.

You can't blame the players if they can earn alot more money playing for Australia then kiwis...

Athletes change nations all the time for money and opportunity.

NEW Zealand officials say they are powerless to stop Sam Kasiano declaring for Queensland despite the Canterbury prop signing a letter earlier this year saying he wants to play for the Kiwis.

Kasiano, who agreed to terms on a new three-year deal with Canterbury yesterday after a strong start to the season with the Bulldogs, is believed to have expressed interest in playing for the Maroons.

The giant prop, who tips the scales at more than 120kg, was born in Auckland but moved to Brisbane after high school and played Queensland Cup for Brisbane Norths, before signing for the Bulldogs in 2010.

NZRL chief executive Jim Doyle admits he fears the 21-year-old could follow the lead of James Tamou, who switched allegiance to Australia so he could represent NSW.

Tamou was included in the Kiwis' train-on squad for last year's Four Nations campaign, but missed out on selection, allowing Australia to secure his services.

"We sent out letters to every single New Zealand qualified player asking them if they wish to be considered for selection," Doyle said.

"Sam ticked the box that said he wanted to play for New Zealand and as far as we're concerned, he's our player and someone who'd be considered for selection in the future.

"However, the letter is not legally binding and if Sam decides he wants to play for Queensland then there is nothing we can really do to stop him."

Tamou's defection caused outrage across the Tasman.

Doyle said the financial benefits on offer to Origin players could make it difficult to resist, with NSW and Queensland stars earning $20,000 a game.

"The financial rewards of playing Origin are something we can't match," he said.

"But many of our guys have said how they would love the challenge of playing Origin, and that's why we're trying to develop our own between Auckland and the rest of New Zealand."

Doyle has tabled the idea to ARL Commission chief executive David Gallop and director of football operations Nathan McGuirk, but admits the response has been lukewarm, although not dismissed out of hand.

Kasiano said he was delighted to sort out his future and praised the role of coach Des Hasler in making him one the best young props in the game.

There's just simply no way that Kasiano or Tamou should be playing State of Origin.

If a player moves to a country to play for a club in that country, because that's where the club is based, they should not be entitled to play for that country on account of that move. No Kasiano. No Tamou. No Webb. No Fien.

ok sir, then based off the scenarios below, it sounds like your answer would be NO to all regarding playing for NZ? which would mean our whole NZ team wouldnt exist...

what if your great great great grandfather was born in NZ, but you and your parents were born in Aus, should you be entitled to play for NZ?

what if when you were 10 and your family moves to Aus for a better life and you end up playing for an aussie club, that trained you, nurtured you etc? should be entitled to play for NZ on the account of the move?

what if you were born in NZ but at the age 6, moved to Aus? what then?.....

I think its up to the players to decide which country they connect with better. If they fill the criteria for both countries, then its up to them to decide.... so good on Tamou if he's chosen NSW and shame on those of you who cant respect the man's decision.

no.

yes. And, in those circumstances, you should also be entitled to play for Australia too. I am happy to concede that.

"what if you were born in NZ but at the age 6, moved to Aus? what then?....."

Same as above, really.

Bullsh*t

As I've said before, my eligibility to go in the ladies' shower-room at the pools is not based on my decision as to which shower-room I connect with better.
