Guy is insanely quick, fantastic step and knows how to get past defenders. He will light up the NRL like Barba has
Put it this way. From everything I've seen, I'll be disappointed if he doesn't end up coming to the Warriors. I'd much rather have him than see him at another club.
Let's just remember that the WCC is played in England and the Australian side usually has their first hit out so they are extremely patchy and lack match fitness.
Not proof of the talent and quality of competition between NRL and ESL.
Tomkins could be good but he isn't 1 million good until he makes his mark here.
Depends on what your salary cap break up is. I believe the salary cap goes to $6.3m next year. The $1m could also be taken up by 3rd party endorsements.
Also, for the Warriors, the Warriors for years have been playing miles under the salary cap because they simply can't attract top line NRL talent. Aside from Price, Wiki and Tate, in the last 8-9 years the rest have been players with a point to prove (Inu, Mateo), fringe first graders (Seymour, Maloney) etc. Its well accepted the Warriors are miles underneath. So if you look at from an opportunity cost perspective, they're probably not going to have to part with much talent if any to fit him in.
The 'he's a back' argument doesn't fly for me. Who was the last top line back the NRL's had from the ESL? The only English backs I can recall coming here in the last 15 years are Ian Sibbot (I think that was his name, and he wasn't a top liner, and I think he may have been more of a utility), Chris Thorman (I know he played two test matches but he's NOWHERE near the quality of Tomkins), Jordan Tansey who was average in the ESL, and Richie Mathers who was more of a solid player with a track record of injuries with good defence rather than a player with out and out scoring ability.
I doubt Tomkins will necessarily do what he's done in the ESL, but to discount him is a joke at best.
