its been frustrating watching Tomkins play for the warriors mainly because he seems to have had his individual game play taken from him in favour of team tactics, by whom? the coaches? the senior players? maybe that's a reason for a return - shaun wane will let him play individual risk footy in favour of team 1st footy.

He would have done better behind a team with better halves, whether or not he could have made a name for himself in the NRL is still open to conjecture imo . . . nothing has been proven one way or the other

Pops has the need to comment on SJ excessively so take it with a grain of salt.

The Warriors built their structures around SJ/Tomkins with no real plan b, variations, or anything resembling a contingency when one went down. Unfortunately both went down at various times. Johnson struggled early in the season without Tomkins, came good when he returned and then got injured himself.

Unfortunate that Tomkins could only show glimpses of what he is capable of, but those are the breaks sometimes. Hopefully RTS has better luck.

He's been pretty much a replacement level fullback - which overall means a fail

Problem is in terms of English imports he was built up as in the Reilly/Ward/Burgess/Hanley etc category... or as a fullback, in the league of Slater, Inglis, Hayne etc

The Warriors have form with high profile English imports - Andy Platt and Dennis Betts arrived here as superstars, like Tomkins both left with their reputations tarnished. Tomkins is more like Platt I guess, he tried hard but just didn't seem to have the ability to be dominant in the NRL... He seems relatively slow, weak, positionally mediocre etc but his distribution skills were good, and we were better with him on the park than not... Of course he'd be better in a better team, but the scary thing is Hayne was playing for the Eels!

i enjoyed watching him last year thought he was pretty good but this year between injuries and poor team form it's hard to judge him on performances.

RTS is a better suited fullback for the Warriors though. Apart from Foran he is one player i'm really looking forward to seeing in his teams new jersey next season

I think he's FG quality.

I also think he'd be better suited to 5/8 where he'd be at someone like Corey Normans level.

He has played in the halves before. Many Pommy fans on English web sites want him back in No 6 or 7, esp for the England national team. (They think Leeds Zak Hardaker is a better full back, esp in defence, than Tomkins).

But he has more freedom to attack at full back. And at No 6, based on past performances he is better than Corey Norman.

Give it a rest Pops, Johnson isn't Benji, he leads our team around the park like a pro AND makes miracle plays. He's an incredible player

He's way smaller than Nornan. Forwards would have a field day with him on defence.

Google says Corey Norman is 96kgs. I've seen Tomkins in the flesh and he wouldn't be 80kgs with anvils in his pockets. Aragorn is right, he's an absolutely awful on-line defender and would give new meaning to speed bump in the front line.

And did Tomkins play good footy? At all? We can see how Johnson goes with a decent team around him next year.

Im not sticking up for Tomkins. Just saying Johnson has been well below his best more often than not, earlier this year he was getting bagged for being inconsistent and not leading the team. But yeah we will see. Been waiting for Johnson to put a good season together since 2011. Started to put it together this year then got hurt.

Milford proved it's better to be too small and generally crap in the line than useless at the back. Tomkins wouldn't even be the worst the defender in the halves in the comp, close though.
