MMM Grill team have said this morning that Sandow will earn $600k and is now earning more than Inglis etc.

They even claim that they know what the top players earn and rank them: Top 10 Rich List #NRL | @GrillTeam 10. Idris 9. Hayne 8. Marshall 7. Gasnier 6. C Smith 5. Thurston 4. Sandow 3. Inglis 2. Slater 1. Locky

FMD thye have as much a chance of knowing what these guys are on as I do. Criminal that they can just sit there and BS.

Pirtek Eels sign Chris Sandow

4/05/2011 3:40:39 PM

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have signed boom halfback Chris Sandow to a four-year deal from 2012.
“I was really impressed with the direction the Eels are heading under Steve Kearney,” Sandow said.
“He is clear on where he wants to take the team and I’m excited to be a part of that future.
“I want to thank South Sydney for everything they’ve done for me – they gave me my start in the NRL.
“It was a very hard decision for my family and me but I’m really looking forward to joining the Eels next year.
“But for now my focus remains with Souths and I am 100 per cent committed to the rest of the season with my teammates.”
Pirtek Eels coach Steve Kearney said;
“Chris is a young halfback with a lot of potential and he’ll be a great asset with regards to what we’re building here at the club.
“This is the first step in our recruitment drive and we’re looking forward to building on the solid talent base we already have.”
Pirtek Eels Chief Executive Officer Paul Osborne said Sandow’s signing was an endorsement of the club’s structure and direction.
“Chris’s signing is great for our club and great for our future,” Osborne said.
“He is one of the top halfbacks in the competition and the fact he’s decided to join us is a sign we’re doing a lot of things right at this club.”

@RLW_Mole Sandow's reps approached Parra. Believed he was in bad environment at Souths. That's what he meant by "doing best" for his kids.

Talk of gambling debts and other players @ Souths in the same predicament. Needed fresh start.

Sandow's decision to go to Parra has less to do with money than the armchairs critics realise. You guys need to lay off #nrl

call me paranoid but anytime the words 'players' and 'gambling' are put together in a sentence it starts to sound like ryan tandy part 2
even if they lost money on the gee gees or dishlickers instead of betting on games it wouldnt take much for a bookie to say psst mate i know a way for you to settle your debt.......

THE OTHER SIDE
South Sydney co-owner Peter Holmes a Court's reaction to Chris Sandow signing with Parramatta has been far more tempered than his partner Russell Crowe's. In an online column published yesterday, Holmes a Court wrote: ''Did Parramatta overpay for Chris? I think that is for Parramatta's members to judge. Something or someone is worth exactly what a buyer is prepared to pay for it. But if you pay more than you can afford, that's your problem, and that's bad business. Rugby league was founded on the principle that players have the right to demand whatever they believe is the market worth for their services. No one has to pay it, but they have the unfettered right to ask for it. Players have an implausibly short playing window, and have very limited options after their professional careers. Good luck to Chris … I wish him the best of luck for a long career.''

if Parra paid $550k for Sandow as suggested by Russell Crowe, i think it still makes th eEels look like fools.

If they have the foresight to keep Hodkinson and Mahoney at the time they would have a halves combination (ie two for the price of one) costing them about $400k and a spare $150k still in cap space!

funny thread to revisit. All the Eel claims that no way they paid $550k pa as per Crowe's initial twitter. Every thing i see today states $550k pa.He may end up being worth it , however it was overs at the time.Should make for interesting negotiations with rest of team as their contracts come up.
