Really?

Where Nine will be most pleased is with how many people remained tuned into its channel across the five metro cities, which boasted the highest-rating grand final of all time with an average audience of 2.647 million.
In Melbourne, home of AFL but whose side the Storm was out to prove it could bring home a finals win, the peak audience reached 787,000.

THE MCG last night hosted the biggest State of Origin rugby league clash in history, and now Victoria is coming after the Bledisloe Cup. A massive crowd of 91,513 packed the home of sport

Origin would draw a massive crowd no matter where it is played, and a GF with the Storm involved while the AFL has yet another year where it involved the Swans really isn't a good indicator. Show us the T.V stats for any other final, GF or otherwise.

I wouldn't give up on Melbourne.
You have to remember they have had to watch "Bellamy Ball" for the last 10 years ("go to the footy watch wrestle mania"). I mean, I certainly wouldn't waste Origin on them. Take that to Perth before Melbourne - especially as Origin is a bit of an eyesore itself at present...
But I would take Nines down to Melbourne and see whether some actual entertaining, attack orientated Rugby League can convert some young fans.

irrelevant, your suggesting Melbourne is a waste of time to play NRL in, clearly it isn't lol

Imo the issue is that Auckland is a one team area. Moving it to Brisbane would arguably produce the same results - only turning up for Broncos games.

Moving to Sydney you'd have a proverbial melting pot of teams and fans, not to mention a larger stadium for increased revenue.

Logical and sound sense.

No need to add anything to your statement.

Melbourne is a lost cause in my view, let those dickwits have their fumbleball, but Grimley isn't far off the mark with Perth. Every time the NRL has taken games there, NIB Stadium has been sold out. It's plausible that the Nines could achieve the same thing, without the fair weather NZ fans who bugger off a soon as the Warriors tank.
I wouldn't have a problem with the 9's being held in Perth at a future date, but if its moved it must be Melbourne.
As regards fumbleball in Melbourne, their junior numbers are dropping quicker than bricks from a skyscraper. We need to get more kids playing Rugby League in Melbourne, and now the time is ripe.
I repeat, "The kids of today what to play for their country, not a suburb in Melbourne"

If it is going to be in Australia at this time of year, they need to spread it over Friday, Saturday and Sunday so that most games can be played late afternoon and evening.

Have round 1 on Friday night
Round 2 and 3 on Saturday arvo/night
QF/SF/Final on Sunday

Good idea. I'd also have a play off for the bottom 4 positions and whoever loses those 2 games gets relegated next year and promote 2 of the keen second tier teams like PNG, Aboringal All Stars, Ipswich, North Sydney, Newtown or Redcliffe.

no way should you play the 9s in brisbane if the rugby 10s is an indication of what the crowd might be

It's hard enough trying to watch it in my airconditioned lounge room, let alone in the heat at the moment. It will be even worse tomorrow. The players don't seem to even know how to play this style of football. I think I would rather watch the Super Rugby, and that is saying something.

I'll give the union boys some credit...even our league boys would be all over the place playing in this heat. The Toulon boys may just melt.

Etihad would be ideal as you can close the roof for players and fan comfort.

dunno about ideal
if it was 45 outside it would still be quite oppressive inside an enclosed venue
youd just avoid direct sunlight & that would be better then being exposed to it
but conditions could still be quite uncomfortable

theres no perfect solution
