Play each pool group in a different city on day 1 - Friday night. Say Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and 1 other (rotate Canberra, Newcastle, Townsville or regional even) Bring it together on day 2 in Sydney or Brisbane on the Sunday evening. Play it all at night unless in NZ. Gives room to fly on Saturday. Builds a bit of hype. Also some time to refine game plans.

You'll need some entertainment between games for the crowds too.

I'm not sure how good it would be for recovery to play and then fly and play the next day. I still think the best option is to play it over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You could have some cheaper tickets on the Friday night and people could go straight from work and just watch one round over a couple of hours. I would rotate it to a different city each year.

Well for starters, the reason NRL goes crap in the middle of Origin is because of things like that and I would say that doing that sort of thing at the start of the season would also increase injury risk. I think there would be more clubs whinging then there are now.

dunno about ideal
if it was 45 outside it would still be quite oppressive inside an enclosed venue
youd just avoid direct sunlight & that would be better then being exposed to it
but conditions could still be quite uncomfortable

theres no perfect solution

Hasn't Etihad got air conditioning?

I'd say it would be summer everywhere in feb. Just a loose prediction
Yes, however summer in SEQ is fairly different to summer in Sydney, Melb, Adelaide, Auckland or Wellington

Have a look at the crowds for the Brisbane 10s on the weekend. Numbers were dire even for a sport that doesnt rate well in the first place. The Eastern side of the stadium would have felt like the surface of the sun

Magic play means we miss the Nines

THE Queensland government is set to torpedo Suncorp Stadium’s hopes of hosting the NRL Nines.

Blindside can reveal Suncorp is in grave danger of missing out on the Nines next season, leaving the colourful tournament in limbo.

Brisbane was considered the red-hot favourite to relaunch the Nines in 2019 after a 12-month hiatus, but the Queensland government has thrown its financial support behind the NRL Magic Round that will take Suncorp by storm next season.

Sources say Queensland government heavy-hitters are baulking at committing major funds to a Nines campaign at Suncorp.

If Brisbane misses out, venues in Perth and Melbourne will rocket into the frame. A return to Eden Park, the birthplace of the Nines, is unlikely.

I don’t think that’s a bad call considering them having the magic weekend.
Is origin a two game QLD series next year?

I thought they were doing an ‘away’ game every third series.

2018 Melbourne
2019 Perth
2020 Adelaide
2021 Melbourne
2025 Melbourne

All confirmed so far. Looks like it might be an annual thing, good move too.

Invite the Wolfpack and a few of the other Pommy clubs to take part and take it to Toronto.

With the right people involved something like that could be incredibly successful and would open up the product to tons of potential new markets.
