SBW will not play again this year

What exactly does a life ban achieve? He would have been better off sitting on his hands for a couple of days.

Exactly.

Gallop could have waited a day and get more details to do this.

If for whatever reason he has to pull the lifetime ban, it would be so embarrassing to Gallop and the NRL.

How can this not mess up the process now, it's like giving Sonny the thumbs up to sign for any French club he wants.

Gallop has made a good choice.

What people don't realise is not just the legal ramifications and the fact he has hurt the Dogs in many ways, but the loss of revenue for the club and the NRL in terms of sponsorship and other things.

SBW walked out the back door and did this in secret because he knew it was wrong. He'll get his arse sued and doesn't deserve to play in the NRL again. If union throw him out on his arse and he wants to play league again, then he doesn't deserve to and Gallop has made sure of it.

You all think Gallop knows the same as us... I'm sure he knows 1000 times mor about the situation at hand and has far more information, hence why he has acted this way.

Another very good point.

Does this lifetime ban affect his contract with the Bulldogs and thus give him a legal opportunity to sign elsewhere?

No...

Gallop wouldn't do that if it affected the Dogs ability to pursue legal action against Sonny Bill Williams.

Fair enough.

Would there also be a legal standing then that by preventing him from selling himself (a product) in one market, under a capitalist system, he should have the opportunity to sell himself in another market.

Not sure if I explained that right...

2GB will get record ratings out of this - I'm positive the Sunday Footy Show and Roast will both be getting the same.

The contract still applies in any regard.

The Bulldogs have the right to sue anyone (and Sonny) who induces or assists Sonny in breaching his contract with the club. And I'm 100% sure that the club will exercise this right and regain damages as a result of the breach of contract.

If he wants to sell himself in another market, its going to be a very expensive move for him and something I know he will regret in 10 years time.

In 24 hours he has lost the respect of everyone, bar 3 dickheads (Weidler, Nasser and his halfwit brother) in the rugby league community. He knew it was wrong, so he did it in secret...

Yes he f**ked up, so did Jamie Lyon. We let him back. You can't tell me you wouldn't want to see sonny vs the dogs down the line. They would sell out telstra!!
Lyon asked for time off from his club and got it. He then asked his club to play for Wee Waa, and got it. He then asked his club to be released to play in England, and got it.

Big difference to Sonny not turning up to training because of "the flu" and going to France...

Weidler was trying to suggest that SBW's contract with the dogs was signed under duress. Maybe that's true, but the way to deal with that is to go to court and get it decided there. If it was found to be under duress, then he should be free to do what he wants. This crap about "he had to go" is just plain rubbish. I was disappointed MG didn't plant one on Weidler.

He didn't plant that one on Weidler because Vossy already did and he pulled up Weidler on that "he had to go" point.

What a shame cause there are 3 games on today, one game Im looking forward to watching Roosters/Manly, and atm I dont think many know that Warriors are leading Melbourne 4-0.

But how do you know they'll want to return?
And I don't see that being any better than the situation at hand...or if it would make it any better.

Players leaving for England/RU is bad is a blight on the game, but how is having players in their prime leave for a period going to improve that?
I mean,we'll be getting players heading towards the backend of their career....I don't see how that would be positive.

well they don't necessarily have to be leaving in their prime - if players are signed on four year contracts they could even be given the option for their last year, for example, with the club then holding an option to bring them back in the team for a one year period afterwards.

the important thing I guess in my mind about making it easier for players to leave to ru in particular is that I think a lot of the big money offers that have been in the news contain an element of danger money. they have to, or something like sbw wouldn't take the risk of walking away from his club and legal action. you know?

once there are ways for players to legitimately spend time overseas, the prices might not be so ridiculously inflated.

I believe that there is innuendo already rife that other players may soon follow. Gallop has made a stand immediately to put some doubt in any other players following suit.

Probably not a bad option at this stage.

How does a player with a manager sign a contract for $500K a year under duress? Strike me down, that's the best I've heard in all this...
