Scotland V Wales - INTENSE game

It's going to be very f**king gradual at this rate. 8 years ago we had a farcial World Cup thanks largely to the inclusion of teams like Ireland and Scotland and we haven't learnt anything.

Scotland and Ireland's inclusion in the last World Cup was about #11 on the list of reasons why it was a farce. Lebanon's all Australian side, the inclusion of Russia/South Africa, the many lop sided scorelines, the inclusion of New Zealand Maori, and the shoddy weather/rail system in England are all above 'including Scotland and Ireland' as reasons for the 2000 World Cup being a joke.

McDougall was good enough to play for Aus and Jimmy McManus was not only born and raised in scotland till he was a young teenager, but is also a 21 year old who was good enough to play every round of the NRL in 2007 and improved rapidly all season. Give Jimmy another season under his belt and he will vie with Doogs as the best player Scotland has, and will qualify as one of their 6 locals.

No he won'te be a 'domestic' player as he has neither played in the scottish rl comp nor plyed for a scotland 2nd tier rep side. Those are the only two criteria.

I'm not sure that that result was in the best interests of the game. I'll be crossing my fingers that Wales can make it through the repecharge, but with Samoa 'stacking' their team I doubt they will be able to. Congrats to Scotland.

crowd figure boys over 1000 or anywhere near it, once again a world cup will be tarnished by gp rule like 2000 wc.

The only good thing to come out of the result is that the poor performance of Wales will put a lid on the plans to split up the GB team.

well Newcastle also has the two McDougall brothers and the third brother has already played for Scotland at Union - and i have heard it said Cory Paterson might qualify as well.

I'm a bit late - but hey, go Scotland !! I would have loved to be there yesterday, but things conspired against us.

I just checked the Scottish Herald to see if it even made it in there. Sure did, BUT page 20 of the Sports Section (off in a corner). :(

Gotta get a decent International board together and start promoting this great game properly !! The amount of people I've spoken to in my office who, when they start talking about Yawnion to me - and I retort with something along the lines of "that's a sh!t sport, League is the game to watch" - reply to me with "yeah, the few games I've seen I've actually enjoyed it better" !!. We promote it, capture the publics imagination and the media are forced along - can't be that hard, surely !! (obviously it is).

Good on Sky for covering the game live over here - and back to back live games again this Friday night, I'm impressed.

I'd like to see Wales take the last spot.

Who the f**k are you anyway 5 posts?
Of course it's gradual: players from countries where the game's only recently been started up (especially where it's most practical to play in the RU off-season to get more players involved) are inevitably going to be a long way behind those from countries where it's been played for decades and there are pro teams. Don't forget it was 25-30 years before PNG played their first International and another 10 before they were in a World Cup.

Contrary to what you said, administrators have learned from their mistakes: that's why they have the domestic league & 6 domestic player rules. Last time they let in teams representing countries with no domestic structure, this time they expelled Georgia for not having one. At the same time they know that only a handful of those domestic players have the ability to play along with pros and they struck a balance. They've made steps in the right direction that they can expand as development picks up.

As for me, I'm someone who loves the game even though I didn't grow up with it. I follow it as best I can despite living where it gets no media coverage at all and support it when I can (I bought a family ticket for the Wales-PNG game though I live across the pond and couldn't attend). I'd love to see the game flourish and become a major world sport.
