HASTINGS STARS AS TIGERS UPSET ROOSTERS IN COMEBACK WIN
Jackson Hastings returned to the NRL to haunt his old club in a nice piece of rugby league symmetry to give Tigers fans cause for optimism in 2022.
Hastings was let go by the Roosters for having a bad attitude early in his career, but he showed how much he has matured in a starring display in the Tigers’ 16-8 comeback win.
The Tigers were down 8-0 early before they ran in 16 unanswered points in what was arguably the game of the round.
Hastings was at the forefront of everything the Tigers did well in attack and Benji Marshall believes he showed why he could be the buy of the season.
Michael Ennis was impressed by Hastings’ involvement as he bounced around the footy and looked dangerous all night against the Roosters.
“It’s been a good start for Hastings on his return to the NRL,” Ennis said.
“He’s been busy, he’s looked sharp at times, particularly in this second half with possession he’s looked dangerous.”
The 26-year-old finished his return game with a try assist, a linebreak assist, 49 running metres and three tackle busts.
He also brought the best out of and took the pressure off much maligned halfback Luke Brooks who was also impressive against the Roosters.
However, even more impressive than Hastings’ performance was his mature post match comments that the Tigers wouldn’t get carried away with the win due to the amount of Roosters’ stars on the sidelines.
If they can keep a level head and maintain the commitment they showed in defence against the Roosters, the Tigers can be one of the surprise packets of the 2022 season.
