If you believe the cockheads in the media, it's because they are waiting for the end of the season for Ciraldo to become available, but I'm not sure. If they have any sense, they will continue to take a long sighted view and just Madge more help in the football department.
Taking this approach appears to have improved our recruitment. Before we were signing a player that looked good in a position and expecting it to yield a good result. It happened with Jennings, with Joey and it also happened with Doueihi when we signed him to play fullback. Since Hartigan has come on board the signings have been about younger blokes and giving them time to develop, like Stephano, Simpkin, Kepaoa and to a lesser extent Laurie.
That's the approach I hope we will start taking with our coaching staff as well, like Souths have done. They signed Bennett, but they also signed Demetriou. Demetriou gets time to build a relationship with the playing group and assess their performance without having to be the head coach. Then when he takes over, there isn't that resentment that a team might have towards an outsider coming in to be head coach. You can see it Penrith with Ciraldo, at the Knights with Seibold and the Roosters with Fitzgibbon.
My expectation is that by bringing Sheens, Madge can have a sounding board without worrying about the bloke stealing his job and that we start bringing more effective people into the organisation at lower levels who have the capacity to move up and take on more responsibility when needed, like with Robbie becoming a trainer and Kimmorley coming back into the fold.
