Id leave Api as captain for now. Hes done the hard yards the last two years and will finally get a bit more help. The temptation is there after seeing how great a job Crichton did at Canterbury, however IMO neither Burton or Mahoney were stand outs for captain in the first place. Luai can still be a leader without the C next to his name, would be VC and take over onfield when Api has a rest.
Agree. In a way it's disrespectful to take it off him.
Let Luai run the show but for the team huddles and pressers let Api do the talking and to get people focussed.
Either way it's a win for the team and us no matter what happens.

Footy teams I’ve been in, the captain spoke but everyone was allowed to chip in. Got heated sometimes. Five eighth loved swearing at me on-field.

But that stayed on field.

When I broke my wrist in 3 places at training. Plaster cast. No suing the school, no apology, no therapy lol.

Api is undoubtedly a great asset & leader for the club but chances are come mid-late season the very talented TDS given enough opportunities in the 17 may usurp Api as our no.1 hooker.Either way we will b the envy of many clubs having 2 players of this calibre sharing the hooking role.

Even though I’d prefer JL as captain out of respect to the incumbent Api he certainly deserves to retain it for the start of season.Albeit I do expect JL to b captain in ‘26 & wont b surprised if Api retires & reverts to purely a mentoring role in ‘26.

And hopefully my tip about Cleary upping and leaving for the Union is true.

That's how I see it. It's not a huge issue tbh. Both players would command a lot of respect.

Should also bring that touch of smug with them.

It’s not expected but I’d love see to Birdy have a few of his vintage champagne utility games.

I don’t think he’s signed to do much more than his job on the day, but fingers crossed.

He loves the fans.

Naden maybe finally waking up?
Good news for us, if it's true.
He might have been suffering from the diagnosed ”smug-separation anxiety” (SSA) a kind of footy player ADHD when they leave Penrith.

Dr @Vic Mackey identified it as a visual footy metabolite after watching Burtos game crash at the dogs.Vic did a well attended TED talk on it late last year. I arrived late, but picked up the gist.

With the injection of fresh smug, you can see he is responding quite well to the treatment. Just have to be careful he doesn’t adopt some of their less desirable values.

No club in their right mind would sign the imbecile. He certainly has athletic ability but geez he’s an error riddled knucklehead.Id b shocked if he suddenly became an NRL std player.

Funny thing in 2015 when Penrith won NYC....Naden was the captain.

So there is a bucket load of talent there. He has had some issues in the past, but seems to be coming good. I like Naden he's got a lot going for him, which some on this platform can't see.

I bet he regrets leaving now.

The world at his feet and he voluntarily goes back to being Dylan Edwards’s bitch.

My bet is that rampant Clearyism creeped into his head. Brainwashed. Such a waste.

Right @Aliceinwonderland sister?

Laurie May end up being 14. He can play most positions in the backline. Also is a chance of being beside Cleary in the halves. Probably the closest thing as a like for like with Luai.

Laurie is sub standard & can’t hold a candle to Luai. For the b grader to make ur 17 u would have to experience a severe injury toll in ur backs. He couldn’t cement a spot our NRL team when we had a reserve grade std backline.

What is transparent is whatever he has going for him is negated by his acute stupidity

Didn't Laurie hold your team together for a few rounds back in 2023 ? When he was finally put in the halves.

Time will tell.

Laurie did quite well for a couple of rounds in 24 playing either at fullback and in the halves until taken out illegally during a game against the Dragons.

It will be fascinating to see what happens in 2025.

I don’t require time to tell me what kind of player Laurie is.I saw enough garbage exhibited by the bum when he was employed at Concord. We had the worst backline in NRL & we were happy for him to move on coz he was woeful. As for doing quite well for a couple of rounds in ‘24 kudos would go to the phenomenal team he was playing with at Penrith who would easily cover for his deficiencies.

Lauries 2021 was outstanding, it was better then anything Bula has produced. We were right in the hunt for the finals when he broke his leg in round 20, we then lost 4 of the last 6 with only 1 of those games against top 8 sides.

For whatever reason he never got back to that form with us, his 2022 and start to 23 were very poor which got him dropped. He was then horrible in NSW Cup in the games I saw. I did get told that the club felt he was a bit unprofessional with his rehab however this was during COVID which would have been hard.

I agree in that he his back end of 23 playing in the halves was pretty good and he defending surprisingly well in the halves. Personally I think hes more suited in the halves these days (he was diabolical under the high ball) and could be an NRL 6 for a number of clubs. Hope he goes well in 2025.
