I’m on Jenkins. Tipping Critta to sign elsewhere for 24 and the club to fast track Tago into the pack, initially on the bench in the Salmon role, save blooding a completely fresh centre pairing in 2024. Hopefully Lisati or Smith get a decent look as well.

The 17 will be everyone from last year with Kenny starting Luke on the bench with Hosking and Garner fighting it out to be the second edge backrower. I don't really see how we can have any big suprises to have a bolter for 23.

We have been blessed with relatively few injuries these last three years. I remember several promising seasons derailed between 2011-2019 due to injuries.

Should we have anything like one of those ordinary years, I'd expect a fair few new faces to feature and perhaps make a name for themselves.

Benefit of a young team low mileage and associated wear and tear. I also believe we have some of the best medical staff and facilities in the league but who knows since non contact injuries are pretty random.

The team did luck out on a lack of season ending injuries from 2020 to 2022. 2021 they were busted but no one did an ACL or popped an Achilles.

Hopefully the luck doesn't run out in 2023.

2023 will be make or break for a few of the fringe players such as Lindsay Smith,ThomasJenkins andEddie Blacker. If they can’t break into our top 17 in 2023 they will surely have to look elsewhere with other juniors coming thru.

I think the Mitch Kenny - Soni Luke rotation can work. Time will tell.

Unlike others I think Kikau is a bigger loss, I just can’t see us being able to replace what he brought to the side. He was just a threat even when not doing anything, just the fact he was on the field put defences in two minds. I just don't see how we replace that.

We don't replace that. You change the attack to be more focused on Tago and May. All that's needed in Kikau's spot is a hole runner to be an option.

2023 is when we find out if Luai is really a rep level player

I’m not convinced 93kg - 184cm Izack Tago is going to offer the same threat out wide as our former player in 195cm - 118kg Viliame Kikau. Ivan can change the attacking structures which ever way, but offering the same threat just isn’t going to happen. Suggesting we just need a ‘hole runner’ is fine, we just need one who is very big, strong , fast and we currently don’t have that from my assessment.

He played in the back row a couple of games and nailed it.

I don’t recall Isaac Tago playing in the back row this season my memory suggests he played exclusively in the centre position. Regardless, it would be a huge ask for a kid with an entirely different skill set to be expected to fill Viliame shoes. Anyway it is what it is and it is for Ivan and his new coaching staff to figure out. I’m sure there is a plan.

Or it could be the year before.
