I have spare time and I'm enjoying this.

I have little doubt he'll be suspended. Rightly or wrongly.

Fair enough, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get off the charge though, we'll see.

Still a Champion/Legend, grub and all.

I like how people always bring up the sliding in with his feet as to why he’s a dirty grub. But the facts are, he wasn’t the only one doing that, it wasn’t illegal when he did it and since it became illegal he doesn’t do it anymore. As for the kick to Klemmer, Slater has always done that, so did Minichello and other fullbacks, and if Klemmer didn’t rush in to whack him midair then he doesn’t get kicked.

So, if Klemmer doesn't put himself in that position it doesn't happen?

It was totally ok to kick someone in the head when Billy was doing it.

Ask John Skandalis about Billy 'happy feet' Slater.

Trying to get storm fans to see reason on this topic is the most exercise posters here have gotten in years.

An exercise in futility !!

I’m well aware of how brain injuries work. Since when are shoulder tackles the only ones that can cause a whiplash? I don’t see that as an argument against what I’m saying. There are shoulder charges that barely have an impact on the opposition player. Then there are tackles that aren’t shoulder charges that absolutely f**king wreck players causing a hue whiplash and that’s totally fine.

You can agree that Slater should be banned and disagree with the shoulder charge rule. Then again most people’s arguments around shoulder charges were nonsensical in the first place and throw in irrational hatred of a storm player and it’s basically impossible to have a logical discussion.

This is why the shoulder charge rule was hypocritical in the first place. We celebrate huge car-crash like hits, but only if the arm is raised. Whiplash and potential injury are just as great with these types of tackles. A few years after the shoulder charge ban Matai smashed Tyrell and everyone raved, but if Matai hits Tyrell in the head with that then Tyrell suffers brain damage, if he doesn't get killed. But apparently what causes severe injury is this arm being 'tucked' bullshit.

Ackerman's death was tragic, but it's also the only death that's really been reported on. A few people die each year from rugby league, usually from head knocks caused by standard tackles but the defender has collected the knee, hip or shoulder of the ball carrier, or from common illness. Kato Ottio died early this year from heat stroke, but I don't think NRL clubs are gonna ban pre-season summer training despite it potentially causing severe illness.

Na, we're all just rugby league haters.

Only the supporters of the Storm are true rugby league lovers.
They are all that is good in the game.

lol

Not sure why you are trying so hard.

Everyone knows he will get off. There is no need to waste your energy on this crusade.

The reason the shoulder charge was banned was based on evidence of the average collision and the amount of force that is applied. Of course, you can't eradicate all risks, but you can minimise them. That's why they banned the shoulder charge.

We could go into the reasons why this increased force occurs, but I don't think it's necessarily appropriate.

Ackerman's death was tragic, but it's also the only death that's really been reported on. As mentioned, the league brings in rules in minimise risk of injury and death. They can't remove it completely. But it's why they have mandated breaks in certain temperatures, it's why they have made grapple tackles and cannon ball tackles an illegal tackle. It's why you can't attack the legs of a kicker, or his a half late.

The shoulder charge ban was meant to minimise risk.

Was the Billy Slater one what they were thinking of when they banned it? No, but it is still an illegal tackle.

This perfectly legal play is why I think he is a dirty grub.

It's not his go

Billy is such a supreme athlete that he uses his extended, studs up boot in the facial region as balance.
The regular athletes don't climb as high as Billy, and so you don't see others doing this.
When you look at the photo, you will see a nice vertical line between his left leg and his torso and head. This is a well balanced stance. Now, because his right leg is nearly perpendicular to his body, he has to make contact with the head/neck/spinal cord region with a kicking action so he remains balanced and doesn't fall over. Now of course this isn't a kick, it's a kicking action. By now I hope you are familiar with what is, and what's not his go.
Similarly, knees, elbows, etc rammed at opposition try scorers are also balance related. You wouldn't understand, so I won't waste my time explaining it. Storm supporters understand it, though.
