I always want to know how Slater would compare alongside Churchill and Langlands who some say are the greatest players ever.

The hysteria about the booing is ridiculous. That said, I remember hearing Wayne Rooney say it - fans don't boo bad players.
People complaining about the booing including the fact his kids were with him. Why should rich kids get extra priviledges like walking around the stadium and being ballboys at home games?

It should have a pile of salt at the bottom for all the "fans" who dont like him because A) Hes a queenslander B) He plays in Melbourne C) He was the best ever.

People had full respect for his ability the reason why people didn’t like him was not only because he broke our hearts it’s because he played the game in a dirty way. Studs to the face, sliding in feet first, chicken wings, Crushers etc which was always overlooked for some reason. And the fact he shouldn’t have played on Sunday and that there is blatant favouritism shown to him. Let’s not also forget the salary cap scandal at the Storm which he and smith knowingly signed 2nd contracts.

A & B are invalid for me. I actually like Wally Lewis & he is a) & for me was c )

We just hate Slater because he's a merkin & a grub, this is why he was booed. Don't overthink it.

As if I didn't need another reason to hate Slater, I absolutely loaded up on him to win the Clive Churchill.

The only game I've ever wanted him to play well, and he played one of his worst ever games.

Yes it’s terrible when players put their boots in dangerous places

People don't like him.

Get over it.

As hard as it is to believe some people on here don't like the great Boyd Cordner. Unfathomable to most people but it is indeed true.

Each to their own.

It certainly amazes me that journalists and others who make a living out of commenting on the game, are amazed that many supporters simply do not like Slater (and other players). They can harp on all they want about brilliant footballers, come up with beauties like 'future immortal' and they know better when the facts are, many people do not like him. They don't like him as a footballer, they don't like him because there is a perceived bias towards him by NRL management e.g. judiciary. They don't like him because of what he has got away with in the past.

Those journalists just because they write columns or have a say on radio of TV does not make them right or give them the right to say they know best and supports do not.

There are many supporters who dislike many players, even players at their own clubs for any number of reasons.

As supporters, it's our right to support, cheer on, boo, like, dislike who we want.

I will step off my soap box now, oh yeah, it was my right to step on it and say what I thought.

Your words and name are well matched. Honest and forceful summary.

I booed him because of the shoulder charge, the dive into Victor Radley, the bitching at Sutton and the fact that I had to sit through the Smith and Slater show during Origin 3, instead of getting to see Freddy and Boyd lifting the shield infront of the blue legion in Sydney.

People have been asking for it for months, the MCG is lined with AFL & Cricket stars, RL fans wanted RL statues around AAMI park, like them or not you can't argue the positive role Smith and Slater (and Cronk and Bellamy) have played in RL's and the Storm's growth in Victoria

And the negative connotations both players have had in the game nationally.

But sure, lets talk about Victoriania.....
