People had full respect for his ability the reason why people didn’t like him was not only because he broke our hearts it’s because he played the game in a dirty way. Studs to the face, sliding in feet first, chicken wings, Crushers etc which was always overlooked for some reason. And the fact he shouldn’t have played on Sunday and that there is blatant favouritism shown to him. Let’s not also forget the salary cap scandal at the Storm which he and smith knowingly signed 2nd contracts.
&
People don't like him.
Get over it.
It certainly amazes me that journalists and others who make a living out of commenting on the game, are amazed that many supporters simply do not like Slater (and other players). They can harp on all they want about brilliant footballers, come up with beauties like 'future immortal' and they know better when the facts are, many people do not like him. They don't like him as a footballer, they don't like him because there is a perceived bias towards him by NRL management e.g. judiciary. They don't like him because of what he has got away with in the past.
Those journalists just because they write columns or have a say on radio of TV does not make them right or give them the right to say they know best and supports do not.
There are many supporters who dislike many players, even players at their own clubs for any number of reasons.
As supporters, it's our right to support, cheer on, boo, like, dislike who we want.
I will step off my soap box now, oh yeah, it was my right to step on it and say what I thought.
