There's no way they win the competition this year but I'm still not prepared to write them off for the eight just yet.

Sure they look terrible but so do half the other teams in the competition at this point in time.

Hard to believe that it's only May and barring injury, the top four looks like it's already cast in stone but at this stage, that's what it looks like. Hard to imagine that anyone else will bust in there, even with so many rounds to go.

Positions 5 - 8... Anyone's guess. Teams like Parramatta, St George, the Tigers are all in the mix but they're so inconsistent. They can look like world beaters one week and then the wheels fall off the following week. Sad to say it but if the Broncos can somehow get their act together in the next few weeks, they can easily jump into the mix for the bottom of the 8. Really... Anyone outside that top four just needs to string a few wins together and they'll be firmly in that mix.

Broncos have woeful form but talent wise, they do have a decent group of players at that club. They also won't be afraid to poach / buy someone from another club before June if they think that player will make a difference.

I'd love to write them off but at this stage, anything is still possible.

I think it’s a big claim to say we look top 4 cast in stone. We’ve been utter garbage for most of our games. The only glimmer of hope is that if we hit form we could be unstoppable.

I'll write them off. I've seen sides like this at Raiders for years. Great bunch of young players coming through but they bring inconsistency. They'll jag some good wins on the back of them but won't be enough to win most of their games from here on in.

As a general observation, Coaches are being found out real quick this season.

Seibold wasn't a world beater, gets the golden ticket to Brisbane, with a side that could perform well. Team is playing like absolute shit.

Cleary has a good side, not much better. Lacks fitness, shitty structures etc.

Brown....Enough said

Green loses JT and JT to injury and the side has capitulated. Sticks to the same plan despite it not working.

Arthur, improved but hasn't proven anything yet.

Brennan.....I'll excuse for the moment but on paper, the side is better than their performances.

Then you have the coaches who make it happen. Robinson, Bennett, Bellamy and in recent times, Stuart.

Coaching and club management isn't easy but like signing young players to big dollars, there's a chance that things don't always pan out and for Seibold, thats the case.

He'd need to broom the place and see what he can come up with.

Thing is... You can say the same for the other three teams in the 4. Melbourne, Roosters, Canberra haven't really set the world on fire. Roosters have essentially been playing 40 minutes of good football each week and switching off. Storm have had a few hiccups against average teams and have just snuck home and Canberra look like world beaters for a while but had a stinker last week.

Fact is, although none of these teams are setting the world on fire, they're still winning and also look like they can still go up a gear or two. None of them are playing great 80 minute football every week but they're still bagging the two points.

This is why I think the top four is pretty much already decided.

If you're playing average and still winning every week, it doesn't say much for the quality of the rest of the competition.

Thing is, the Raiders would sit on that side and bank on it improving in a year or two.

The Broncos will look at their weaknesses now and try to address them in the player market before the end of June cut off. They've moved on Nikorima and will probably ditch one or two others and you can bet that other clubs will make some adjustments as well.

I'd like to say that the Broncos are done but history tells me that by some bullshit twist of fate, some excellent player or even players from elsewhere will suddenly get homesick for Brisbane and become available for a mid season switch. Either that or they'll unearth some young superstar from out of the QLD cup. Basically, the Broncos will arse their way out of trouble as they tend to do all the time.

Rooster will make it. Storm will make it. Souths have won games they might have lost, 3 of them from my memory. They've got the points though but there's a long way to go. They'll probably make it. The 4th team could be anyone.

I don't think they'll find anyone that will make much of a difference before the cut off this season. They're really missing a quality playmaker/organiser and I just can't see them filling that void this year. Definitely next year though.

I'd love to write them off... I'd honestly love it. Thing is, I've been burnt before. The arse is just so strong in that club.

the person/people responsible at the club for not addressing the issues with their spine should be fired and never have a career in roster mgmt at any club at any level. The Jack Bird signing has to be one of the dumbest ever given what the needs for this squad were then, and still are now.

Now Bennett is a great coach, there's no doubt. but if he presided over any of these major roster decisions/ inertia at the Broncos, then i hope Shane Richardson and Mark Ellison keep him at arms length when it comes to this sort of stuff, and continue to do what they've been doing in the last few seasons. They've put together a great squad (small weakness in OBs now with GI retired) and all Bennett needs to do is what he does best - man manage. Demetriou is a smart footy tactician so let him do the X&Os. Bennett just oversee it all and do little as possible, keep the troops happy, front the pressers, and collect your 900k.

Bennett was struggling with this Broncos group and arguably had his worst results in his entire Broncos reign. Seibold inherited a clusterf**k which he probably didn't know about until he got fully immersed into it.

They can still make 8.

No chance for the premiership. Not because of where they are on the ladder. Just because of the team they are.

I think they still need to change some things. I'm not convinced Milf can get them there at 6. He's too inconsistent. I'd be putting him at 1 and Bird at 6. Boyd probably on the wing. Gillett captain.

Is that forward everyone was bigging up after one game still thought to be worth a million $’s? Lol

young 'uns and old farts. there's not much quality in their prime which is what you need to compete. the one they have is being played out of position - MILF should be at FB. you're not going to get consistency out of the young fellas. there are several of them in the engine room expected to take them forward. it works when you have 1 in an experienced pack, like Murray at Souths, and Radley at Roosters, etc. but expecting the young guys to be the forward pack? they're going to struggle to do it every week.

as i said before, roster mgmt has been bad. they'll need to cop it for a season or two until they and Dearden mature.

finally, of all the sponsorship money that was available to the Broncos, don't you think it wouldve been wise to not have 'Splatt' Lawyers front and centre?

Dearden will be a quality half, just needs time.

I don’t think they necessarily need anyone, they need to move on a few though, the young kids are playing pretty well, it’s the older more experienced players that are stinking up the joint.

Brisbane just aren’t a very good team. Think about the losses under Bennett since mid 2016. I mean there were games they were belted in, very unlike the Brisbane of old. Their recruitment/retention hasn’t been crash hot - Thaiday played on too long, Glenn the same, McCulloch whilst a trier just doesn’t have it. Seibold has inherited the rot which set in under Bennett & as a second year coach hasn’t got the experience to deal with it. His season at Souths, whilst great, coincided with a team needing a fresh approach in spite of the talent(they were stale under Madge).
He definitely has time at the Broncos, how long is anyone’s guess but I’d say if Brisbane sack him in the next 18 months then he’d be off to England for a while.

Well said. The only thing I'd add to that is they don't have a leader. They might be ok with the side they have if there was a player in the group that commanded enough respect to get the rest to follow them.
