Semi Radradra threatening to leave NRL

Whether he leaves or not is his business, but non NSW/QLD raised players should not be in Origin, end of story. People who argue they should do not understand Origin. It is not an all star game! It is more than that. It is not about the best 34 players in the world, it is about the best 34 New South Welshmen and Queenslanders.

It reeks of smug arrogance when these players hang it over the NRL that they're going to cross codes so they get what they want. Why the f**k should we further dilute what Origin is just to satisfy one pissed off Fijian? If Radradra takes it personally that he is ineligible for selection in a NRL fixture, the problem is definitely him.

Exactly. How dare any Fijian hang it over the head of the NRL especially when they want to play for NSW. If they wanted to play for Qld, like Petero Civoniceva and Lote Tuqiri then they wouldnt even have a fight on their hands.

The can of worms this opens up is that Origin gets filled with kiwis, islanders and poms and it's no longer what it was

How about each state gets a "bonus" import player. They can use up to one player per series who fits an eligibility criteria of having lived in the state long enough

How about we leave eligibility the way it is.

Semi was born in Australia. He IS an Aussie. Why can't he play origin ?

Edit : oops just discovered he was born in Suva ... that'll learn me for listening to someone on this forum

Because the eligibility rules changed in 2013.

Thanks for that, appreciated.

I think Semi or his manager to be more exact, has a point. Lots of Fijians have played origin before and he probably just doesnt think its fair that the rules have changed. I agree with him, its a bit hypocritical to ban Fijians now, especially when Lote and Petero are regarded as some of the all-time origin greats. Maybe he should take it to court if he feels so strongly about it. I bet he wins.

Petero had moved to Australia before his 1st birthday, Lote was 15.

Its got nothing to do with banning fijians either.

It also prevents situations like GI happening again.

To be fair Uate and Tuiquri were actually products of their respective state leagues, though neither would qualify under the current rules. Civoneciva moved to Queensland before he was one so he would still qualify.

Not to mention that the rule change has been the best decision made regarding rep footy eligibility since it stops not only another Inglis-type scenario but also non-Australians switching to Australia to play Origin.

And what makes you think he would win if the case went to court? There are plenty of things in sport that you are ineligible for, it doesn't matter how much you want it. If you want Radradra to be selected then Burgess, Graham and Foran should all be in there as well.

All Semi's managers fault. Firstly for signing him to a long contract at a poor value, and secondly for making up a bullshit story in hope Semi does leave league and makes more money elsewhere.

Why cant Semi play for NSW and play for Fiji?, the best players in the NRL are not all from OLD and NSW.

I would love to see him play in the Origin arena and i dont believe it will devalue the contest. Its been done before with Adrian Lam and Uate .
