Semi Radradra threatening to leave NRL

Can't seem to read anywhere that this is all about Semi wanting to play for Australia - it is all Origin, Origin, Origin - which equals $$$.

Let's face it, the guy is a Fijian as it gets, played for Fiji a year ago, goes home to Fiji in the off-season, gives his MoM prize to Fijian charity. The 3 year residency rule is a joke. Should be 10 years. If the NRL wants to boost his earnings give him a job as a Fiji RL ambassador etc.

They tried to bring in a fair rule for Origin in 2013. If they bend it now they will look idiots.

Why cant Semi play for NSW and play for Fiji?, the best players in the NRL are not all from OLD and NSW.

I would love to see him play in the Origin arena and i dont believe it will devalue the contest. Its been done before with Adrian Lam and Uate .
Because he's not from NSW, he's from Fiji! ](*,)He's less of a New South Welshman than Keiran Foran is.

Lam moved to QLD when he was 7 while Radradra moved to NSW when he was 20. Uate wouldn't qualify under current rules - that's a good a thing!

Because he is not eligible ffs.

How many times does it have to be said.

They changed the eligibility criteria for the better and he doesn't meet it.

End of story.

Semi Radradra court case will be heard on the Monday. After recent years with incidents with players mistreating women, the NRL don't go lightly on this offence. If Radradra gets a guilty verdict he will likely be de-registered and banned from playing NRL for the whole of the 2017 season.

"SEMI Radradra’s future in the NRL goes on the line on Monday with the Parramatta flyer due back in court on charges of domestic violence.

The 24-year-old has pleaded not guilty to two counts of common assault and one count of causing actual bodily harm in relation to alleged incidents involving his estranged partner, Perina Ting.

It follows allegations from Ting that she was the victim of three attacks in 2014 and 2015, including claims that she was assaulted when she was nine months pregnant.

Off contract at the end of 2017, both Parramatta and Radradra have put future talks on hold until the matter is resolved.

Radradra was also recently denied the chance to represent Australia at the Four Nations tournament in the United Kingdom.

While it is normal practice to allow players a presumption of innocence, NRL boss Todd Greenberg ruled Radradra was ineligible for Kangaroo selection.

Greenberg said at the time: “We don’t want either him or the team to be distracted by this matter and have decided he will not be eligible for selection on this occasion.”

Radradra will also miss a planned camp on the NSW Central Coast with his teammates this week as he attempts to clear his name."

This is probably a bit controversial and/or poorly thought out but f**k it we'll have a crack..

Semi seems to have no interest or ability in promoting the game outside of his on-field feats. Any ban on him is purely about docking him dollars and ultimately Parra & the NRL with a short-lived positive PR bump. No one is gonna think of the demise of Semi Radradra if they banned him for a month or a lifetime.

If Semi was a self-promoter though and could talk shit he and his management would be in overdrive and he'd cop a slap on the wrist and a White Ribbon ambassadorial role.

Is Radradra even in the country? Might have to get Hayne to go find him again

No he is not.

"But Radradra's barrister Murugan Thangaraj, SC, told the court the hearing needed to be vacated because his client had left Australia urgently last week to be with his ailing father in Fiji.

Radradra's father was suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis and asthma and was in "significant difficulty", the court heard.

Mr Thangaraj presented a letter to the court written by the doctor in Fiji treating Radradra's father, but the magistrate Timothy Keady said the evidence was not compelling enough to justify the 24-year-old's non-appearance.

Mr Keady said the letter suggested that Radradra's father had been suffering from the medical problems for some time and that his condition remained under control.

"You understand that's not very convincing," Mr Keady said.

"This tells me nothing other than his father suffers what appears to be a long-term illness ...There is nothing in it to indicate any reason for non-attendance. Certainly nothing that could justify a sudden departure from Australia in the manner that occurred."

Mr Keady revoked Radradra's bail and issued a warrant for his arrest, which will be formally released if more evidence of the severity of his father's medical condition is not provided to the court this week.

The police officer in charge of the investigation had been notified of Radradra's need to leave the country, and his bail had previously been relaxed to allow him to travel overseas.

But Mr Keady expressed his displeasure that Radradra had left the country last Wednesday, two days before his lawyer gave notice to the court of his intention to adjourn the hearing date.

The prosecution also supported the vacation of the hearing, but on the grounds that two of the witnesses who were required could not attend."
