What I find a bit messed up is that on the second charge he apparently knocked her unconscious. Surely, if you were knocked unconscious by a guy that is twice your size and wanted to take action you would go and get some sort of medical report.

Many people are in abusive relationships and just live with it or deal with it I guess hoping it will get better or thinking its their fault.

It may well be normal ... maybe she didnt want to lose him when it happened ... but when he buggered off anyway, why not .... tho agree if it was that way, it doesnt do her cause much good

She would have at least gotten a photo (she apparently uses a phone to text message) and everybody photos everything. She obviously didn't because otherwise the charge would be ABH (which includes bruising). I saw him barrel roll a prop last year. Get out of here.

"Allegedly" knocked unconscious.
Who would know?

Maybe she was embarrassed/ashamed of it? Not taking a photo doesn't mean anything.

Some women wont take photos unless all glammed up and looking their best.

Yeah, maybe. I guess the preacher who came out would have seen the bruising though...but still no ABH charge...is the preacher giving evidence?
She says Semi told the preacher "I put my hands on her" - then they all had a chat...Did the preacher respond to Semi
Maybe she put make up on while in the bathroom.

When he buggered off she sent him an abusive text message accusing him of being a "liar, cheater, womaniser" doesn't mention woman basher. She breaks his phone. He punches her so she "can see the stars" but he is charged with common assault.
Doesn't even sound like the police believe her....Woman scorned.

Police, due to the sensitive nature of the topic, pretty much prosecute all accusations of spousal abuse and raise subsequent avo's. The level of charge at time of court is usually indicitive of their summarisation of the situation, i.e common, occasioning harm etc. common assault can be as little as a push.

As much as we all want Semi to play, if he did what he did then I hope he gets punished for it and does not get off on a technicality

Whilst he may come from a DV culture in his home country ..

We don't treat our women like that here.

there is never any excuse to hit a woman but if there is a DV culture in his country then he grew up with it

i know this has to stop somewhere but it seems a bit lopsided the son gets punished but the father and grandfather who probably did a lot worse for a lot longer get off scott free

Great post, we have to draw the line.

If Semi or the priest do confirm that as alleged (in sworn evidence) Semi had (said) that he had "used his hands" on his partner, then the (alleged) prick deserves his contract terminated.

Semi had been a naughty enough boy for sworn evidence to be provided in a court against him.

Really? I'm glad people haven't provided false evidence before. Semi has similarly sworn (or will swear) that he didn't do it. Nobody here knows the truth.

All we know is that the case is adjourned, Ms Ting actually turned up (which was far from certain) and provided evidence, and that further witnesses will be called.

Why was the witness' attendance far from certain? Have you pondered what assumptions are you making, and how those might be (subconsciously) affecting the rest of what you write?

It's a matter of fact that in cases such as this that witnesses (and often complainants) frequently don't show. That's all I said, and all I meant. That uncertainty has been resolved. And that's good regardless of your position in this case......at least the evidence will be heard.
