Your old school Barry i like ya. Id rather support a local take away then a big food chain.

Yeh, that and the fact that the local takeaway usually makes better food.

About the only time I use McD or similar might be on a long highway drive....but that'd be pretty rare.

.....and I like cooking when I've got time.

Jimmy Bartel a factor in XBlades decision to tear up Semi Radradra sponsorship contract

AFL champion and vocal domestic violence campaigner Jimmy Bartel appears to have been a major influence in a boot manufacturer’s decision to end its lucrative sponsorship deal with a star NRL player accused of punching his girlfriend.

XBlades has torn up Semi Radradra’s contract worth almost $100,000 over three years after he was charged with several domestic violence offences.

While Radradra has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has denied the allegations, the Sunday Herald Sun has learned that the decision to axe the Parramatta Eels star involved Bartel, who is the company’s product development director.

Bartel, a former Brownlow medallist with the Geelong Cats, has invested his own money into XBlades and taken a hands-on role in the brand, following his retirement from AFL football last year.

One of the most decorated players to have played the game, Bartel was showered with praise and lauded courageous for his confronting public admission last year, that as a young boy and teenager he was subjected to domestic violence by his father.

In a statement, XBlades Australia chief executive Leighton Richards said: “In light of the recent allegations of domestic violence against Semi Radradra, it would not be responsible or appropriate for XBlades to continue working with the athlete. XBlades are committed to working with professional players and teams who align with our company values and provide positive role models for the next generation; therefore it is not possible for us to continue an association with Semi Radradra now, or in the near future.”

Like I've said, whatever happens in court I reckon the allegations are true. That's just my personal opinion.

But supposing he is not guilty, and is found not guilty by the court, does Radradra have a case for damages here?

It does read like XBlades went off early. IIRC there has been no admissions by Semi. Evidence or allegations are yet to be tested.

I wonder if Semi played Fumbleball would the same thing of happened???

I dont think it would have made any difference. Jimmy Bartel grew up with domestic violence and he retired last season. He never shaved his beard all year to draw attention to his charity and he has done a lot of good work in that area. Top bloke and an excellent charity and he is a hard worker for his charity.

I think with a company sponsored product like this its not being found guilty, rather the allegations, which do the damage, regardless if he is found not guilty.

Good for Jimmy sounds like a top bloke, but how many fumbeballers have been accused of similar things and were allowed to play without having their sponsorship deals ripped up???

As i said i wonder would he be as vocal if it was a Fumbleball player.

Surely sponsorships like this involve some kind of contract. If Semi is found not guilty in the courts then I think he will absolutely have a case to sue for damages.
