Anyone going along for a look ?

(Will be getting back to nature in the Gold Coast hinterland myself ..so alas i cannot be there !)

Expect the Phillipines to be way too strong but hopefully the Serb boys can keep the scoreline reasonably respectable. (Not that a big a deal if not).

Really do love the fact that these two new(ish !) frontiers have the opportunity to meet. Should be more of it.

How is the game already over if it's supposed to be a Saturday kick off? You aren't 24 hours ahead of the UK.

First game was very one sided to the WPW. Very typical PNG RL style of footy and had both forwards and backs which were powerful and fast. Took the Philippines napping numerous times. Philos also made costly errors however were out muscled by the Warriors.

2nd game was against 2 strong teams but with 2 different styles. Serbians had the forwards while the Philos had the fast and skillful backs.

Serbia lost the 1st half 12-4 due to relying too heavily on their forwards, they got tired and Philos just threw it wide and scored out wide.

2nd half Serbia used their backs more and scored 2 quick tries using their backs more. In the end the Serbs suffered greatly because they lost 2 players to injuries (one rushed to hospital) and in the end the Philos scored under the posts and won the game.

Was there much of a crowd? I thought it would have been good playing this game at the home ground of the Bonnyrigg White Eagles soccer club.

Brilliant event! Well done to all involved. I heard there were over 1,500 there and a very vocal bunch of Serbian fans!

I hope the guy rushed to hospital is ok and I hope the domestic players didn't skimp on insurance seeing as they are living in a hostel. On that subject, they should have asked for billeting - I'm sure you would get a decent amount of rugby league people around Sydney that would have loved to have put them up for a while.

The grand stand was packed and the canteen side and far side near the Carpark was packed so about 1500-2000 I reckon.

Was sitting next to some Serbians who are from Serbia now living in Sydney and they said it was their first ever RL match ever (and they had lived in Sydney for over 20 years).

They also had the Serbian high consul there so it was a very well organised and publicised event.

Apparently serbia went in for a final seconds try which was disallowed. Joshua Marjanovic was the hospitalised player.

Useless sidenote: the serbian word for try "есеј" is calqued directly from the french "essai", harking back to the origin of rugby league and moreover rugby in former Yugoslavia, french students.
