Daz he will not hold Waddell out.Waddell has missed a full year in his development and is coming back from major knee surgery.I would think 2010 will be the year he shines.Next year will be his learning year as he comes up through the u20 team
I think he will prove himself after 3 or 4 games next year.

Panthers Sign Elford
CEO Michael Leary has announced the signing of Shane Elford on a one year deal with the club.

“Shane is versatile player who can slot into a number of positions,” Leary said. “It’s great that a player can return to the club where he is local junior”.

Shane, a St Marys junior, returns to the Panthers having last played for the club in 2003. Making his first grade debut in 1998 for the Panthers, Elford went on to play 69 first grade games before joining Wests Tigers and Huddersfield.

“I’m pleased I can come back to Penrith to where it all started for me”, Elford said. “The experience I have is something I can pass on to the younger guys in our squad; I’m really looking forward to the 2009 season”.

elford is a croc.I would march on the ivory tower that is the offices.Signing a guy who is 31 gets constantly injured over Shane Blackett and Jamie Theoharus is a scandal. Grab the pitch forks grab the banners .

Start marching. Let us know how you get on.

I would march on the ivory towers but its unlikely any one is there.I hear the club is so excited to have signed Elford they are now trying to sign Scotish international and ex panther Duncan Mcgilvery and also chasing Brad drew
Penrith have decided to go with the geriatrics .The sole reason Wesser and pulutua and priddis where let go was they where just not old enough

Oh well. It's a signing I guess.

Incidentially, on the assumption he plays first grade next year, he'll join Mark Geyer's "record" of having a 6 year gap between matches with the Panthers - he left in 1992 and came back in 1998.

Elford will be in the centers.I can not see anyway they would have signed him to play on the wing.We have a truck load of back rowers both in first grade and from the u20.I can not see him being in the forwards

I'd have Luke Lewis in the centres in front of Elford. Penese and Paulo into the backrow with house.

I haven't followed this thread. Don't need to. Signing Shane Elford totally sums up our recruitment strategies. No idea. I am totally at a loss. I have been a staunch supporter of our management in recent season but frankly my patience has been exhausted. They have no idea.

Its all done now...I suppose we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

He needs a massive off-season or he will struggle.

Having connections to his family, I have been told that they are nice people.

Most of us living in the western suburbs are pretty good people... in my experience.

Elford is a champion bloke, but after a few seasons in pommie land, he will be as soft as a 5 day old banana in the sun.

lets hope they do not put elford on the wing he has no value there other than holding our young brigade back.He needs to be inside jennings as he is way to slow to get anywhere near him if he is outside on a wing

I expect Elliott to play Elford in Tighe's centre position early in the season and play Tighe in Rooney's old wing spot
Unless there any injuries or someone impresses in the trials then i expect our backline to be this in round 1 next year.

1 Coote
2 Tighe
3 Jennings
4 Elford
5 Gordon

Hes not the most likely candidate, a body held together by band-aids from the thrashings of many seasons.

In the modern game, looking at Lockyer etc, theres been a revolution in the game known as the "slow 5/8th" movement.

Elford....His hands can still spark and he can learn to kick.

Elford may make a fins 5/8 or even a cheeky half a la Jason Smith.

But if he gets within 20 metres of either touchline, he'll need to be counselled.

Anything is possible with his highness Matty Elliot.

I predict that next year will be his "festival year" a real carnival.

Im going against the run of play, but I think 2009 will be very exciting for the Panthers.
