Shane Flanagan's rant, Greenberg's response

Been happening ever since the first game in 1908.

So what about the teams who missed out on the semis because of bad calls during the year.

Why can't you say their season was ruined by bad calls?

BTW- I don't put my team in that category.

They had some bad calls (as did every other team), but ultimately they missed out on the top because they weren't good enough. The amazing thing about my team is they got so close depite the coaching deficiencies.

We're not in 1908 anymore, we have the technology to get these things right but even with everything in place, we still get it all wrong

Ok- did you bother reading the rest of my post?

Coaches can cop 1 or 2 bad calls, the good teams are able to deal with that and move on but when these decisions occur in the final moments of an elimination final, where they directly decide the result of the game, it's not really good enough

I agree with you.

In a perfect world, all calls would be correct and the players would decide all games on their own merits.

This is not a perfect world, but in the long term, teams cop an even share of good and bad calls.

Maybe today's result was NQ's payback for the 7 tackle try Cronulla scored against them in 2013.

I also think that many of today's controversies have been caused by the NRL's continual "greying" of the rules, which makes it easier to "manage' games rather than simply refereeing them.

Also. I think it was a sin bin and gal has played for the penalty.
But there were still some shockers.
Flanno needed to pick his target a little better.

Strange- I agree with you regarding the sin binning and Gal's milking of the penalty.

But the shockers went both ways, and ultimately the shark's mistakes cost them victory.

Is it just me or what but I reckon the Sharks have absolutely nothing to complain about. In fact I think out of all the games only Manly has a genuine complaint (the Walker no try). People need to stop blaming the refs for their teams losing. Just face the facts your team wasn't good enough

You could not tell definitively that Walker was offside. At least not from the camera angles we seen, if the bunker had other angles then fair enough but I haven't seen anything that proves it.

And just watch Roman Reigns will destroy John Cena at No Mercy

Well
It was a wonderful almost 24 months.

Yeah we got a few bad calls
A couple were atrocious and extremely costly but the refs are shit.
We all know it.
The sin bin was probably a wrong call.
I doubt JT or Smith would've copped a bin for the same thing
Definitely a penalty though and Maloney can only blame himself there.

Anyway
Go panthers
Go parra
The rest
Go get f**ked

This is why I love this place. It's almost unanimously agreed all season long that the standard of refereeing in the game is at an all time low. There are dummy spits left, right and centre all throughout the year from supporters of every club bar the storm.

A coach comes out and finally says what everyone is thinking but he gets hazed because his name is Shane Flanagan.

As if Flano doesn't know they played poorly. His argument was that the rules were applied differently all game long particularly with regards to players off the ball on kicks (if it's Luke Lewis being knocked over its play on, if it's Coote it's a sin bin and penalty even if he was called offside) and strips/knock ons (too many to list) and this cost his side possession and ultimately points. And he's right.

The problem with Flanno's rant is he's wrong. On all counts.

He's just a sad little man. At least he knows who to call to give his team a little more pep, maybe next season they can turn the tide.

Are you on drugs?

Sharks should be playing next week if it wasn't for the incompetent refereeing.

No problem with a coach 'telling it like it is'.

But maybe he could tell us why the sharks completion rate was so low, why their missed tackle rate was so high and why gallen and co took the wrong options at crucial times.

But you see that didn't cost us this game did it?

Refereeing cost us this game.

I present to you, What Would A Good Team Do (WWAGTD)

a few years ago the Roosters and Tigers were playing in a finals match. The Roosters were down by 1 with about a minute to go. The fearless Jared Waerea-Hargreaves does a mighty charge, but is stopped 10m out by a sickening highshot by Tigers' cheap shot merchant Simon Dwyer. Should be a penalty, with sharpshooter Todd Carney kicking the Roosters into the second week of the playoffs. Back then the tv ref could interfere and say it was a high shot. They showed replays which clearly proved that Dwyer slammed into JWH's jaw.

But no penalty was given.

The Roosters season was over, due to a shit refereeing decision.

But wait. The Roosters are a good team. We got a turnover from the scrum, got the ball back to inspirational captain Braith Anasta who calmly slotted a dropgoal to send the game to golden point, in which the Roosters prevailed.

In summary, Good Teams overcome dodgy calls. The Sharks are not a Good Team.
