I've mentioned this before but old farts are allowed to keep repeating the same things over and over.Feb 15th Festival of Footy at Henson Park with 5 grades playing vs Parra.
Starts at 10am.
Firsts on at 6pm.
That'll be a killer day!
I remember as a real little snotter going with my dad and Pop to Henson. Pop was a diehard Bluebags supporter. My grandies lived right on the Princes Hwy Sydneyham (op the old brickworks long gone ).
We walked to Henson from there. I think I might of got carried on the old mans shoulder a fair way. I can't remember who they played or anything about the day except the vast space of the grassy hill and the little grandstand way over on the other side of the field.
Old Pop till the day he passed hated the Stinking Stains and particularly Frank Facer (The Secretary). He often went off about how the Stains stole Raper and Poppa Clay from Newtown. Back in the day a player had to live in the area he played for.
Apparently Facer had about six top players all registered/living at his address.
Rugby League hey!!!! .... nothing changes.
Footnote: Pop was a good bloke. The poor bugger had five daughters including of course my mum. Everytime we'd visit he'd call me outside while he had a beer. I was lucky as he let me drink the white frothy part of his beer. Wonder if that is where my bad habits originated.
Years ago (2017) I did a painting of Pop and I getting into it. Talking footy and 'having a beer' Note the old Newtown shield he had. Old Nan in the kitchen cooking Pea and Ham soup. A fart in every mouthful. Good memories.
