Thanks Damian Irvine for the undeniable passion, commitment & selflessness that you provided to our football team, to rescue it from the brink of financial ruin.

You did not deserve this....but your family deserve you. Sad, sad day for the survival of our club, wonderful day for you family. Go & enjoy them.

Thanks mate!

Yep this sentiment reflects the thoughts of probably 99% of the Sharks supporters and probably a whole lot of footy fans.
Well done Damo and a great moment for me was a trip on a Townsville Cowboys bus to and from the game.
If I can get down for the elections you will get my vote.

At the risk of setting the faithful into a crescendo of wanting me burned at the stake of the holy saint damo

Can someone explain all this " no irvine no club" stuff?

What did he do that was so groundbreaking in terms of the development

My impression was that it was a matter of compiling a case and dotting I's etc

I would be surprised if there was anything magical about it but I genuinely don't know

Yeah yeah I know he worked for little reward and all that but I can't help feeling the overall amateurism Of the last month has not helped the sharks

He picked up the ball & ran with it.... from inside our dead ball, weaved past the backs, smashed his way thru the forwards, sheparded his way around the officials & avoided the slippery ground to plant the ball under the sticks for our (off the field) grand final win.

Yeh he did sfa. Wouldn't have taken much of his time up.

He put his life and family on hold. They had to build a case from the ground up. Lets not forget when he came to power there was still talk of a hotel etc. So first he had to strip that back and then build a new case and get it through all levels of government. While he didnt do it all himself, he built the machinery himself to get it through.

If this no sponsorship debacle had happened when we still had that 13mill debt to service, the administrators would be in. Right now. Irvine created that deal and got the developer to agree to it. So he saved the club.

i think perhaps that due to the focus being the development and the importance with that, combined with lack of support staff mistakes have been made in the football club organisation.

but without Irvine's persistance there wouldnt be a development or a club.

bottom line is there have been failings along the line somewhere in the footy club. otherwise the board wouldnt have acted the way they have.

I too would like to publicly thank Damo for this work as Chairman. I have little doubt he's the best chairman we've had since Peter Gow, and it's a great shame he's had to fall on his sword. I certainly hope he does stand at the next election and members vote him back in.

I also had the pleasure of meeting him a number of times in 2006 on CSSC trips. He's up there as one of the most passionate Sharks people I've ever met. On a lighter note, his Peter Garrett impersonations on the bus trips were legendary.

I do not understand this

He himself declared part of the reason for his resignation was as a result of the bad blood between him and the players and coaching staff

Why the f**k would he want to reintroduce that bad blood and why would any advocate for the club support such a devisive result

Surely the best thing is for him to remove himself totally

I asked earlier were the 'no damo no club ' sentiment comes from and frankly only one guy had a go and it was far from convincing

Why on earth does he think reappearing will add anything but distrust to the situation

Is it ego?

Flame away
I don't give a f**k if you think I am some sort of heretic sent by beelzebub to sully the name of the pure of heart saint damo

He has to go and stay gone

I'm no damo hater. He's done great things. But I agree millers. He should go and stay gone, it's the best thing for the club.
