Sharks Aiton To Play NSW Cup

Friday, 19 February 2010

Taulima Tautai will also return to the field from a calf strain.

The Cronulla Sharks NSW Cup side will have their first hit-out this weekend against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The game will be played at Erskinville Oval on Sunday 21st February, kicking off at 6pm following the NYC game beforehand.
Sharks Coach, Tony Herman, has picked a solid side including hooker and new recruit, Paul Aiton, who returns from off-season knee surgery and is keen to impress.
"I really can't wait to play some footy," Aiton said.
"It's been a long pre season and my knee is feeling very good. It will be good to get some game time under my belt in the lead up to round one, where I can hopefully push for a start in the number nine jersey."
"It's hard watching the boys train at 100%. I mean, I've been training as well, but I've been doing a few extra rehab things here and there and I missed out on a few drills early on, so it will be a good boost of confidence to get back on the field."

Whoever is controlling the Sharks website should get their facts straight,
it's North Sydney we're playing, given they are Souths feeder team, but it is Norths we're playing.

There's a good chance i'll be down there on sunday, i dont live too far from Erko, so if i'm sober enough to give some sort of report I will.
Backing up from ac/dc sect B tickets, could be a lively one.

Wow completley different side from last season which is understandable as most players were told the sharks would not be fielding a NSW Cup side in 2010. 3 players from the 25 named played NSW Cup last season for the sharks.

the full list of gains and losses i have put together

Gains: S.Flanagan (Raiders), J.Cordoba (Eels), T.Tautai (Eels), S.Vave (Titans), J Lewis (Balmain), J McLeod, D Phillips (Central Coast Storm), L Harlen (Nth Qld) M Pickard (Sth Districts), H Retzlaff (Auckland Vulcans)
Losses: T.Weyman,R.Verlinden, B.Barrett (Newtown), B.Goodwin (Dragons). E.Paea (Norths), A.Vea, A.Killingbeck (Melbourne), J.Tavinor (Erina), J.Caine (Berkey), T Leha (Wests)

yeah agree m8, Verlinden and Killingbeck are massive losses, we have taken 8 of our 11 home games to Henson Park, 6 of them being double headers prior to Newtown Jets games, the other 2 are stand alone games against the Jets and Bulldogs.

Yeah I was very looking forward to the season as i'm in close walking distance to Henson atm, problem is i'm moving this week so it'll become a busride. Plus side is that all me mates live within about a half-a-k radius of the ground, plenty of beers, guitars and sausage sangas!

I hope you're going to the game this week, whenever I go to NSW Cup games my reports become splurged, the beer i drink there doesn't seem to like me as much as the words that come out of my mouth.

BBB (if capable) / SAG, could you keep a bit of an eye on the 6 - Shelford. He's the son of Kelly and he played 6 for us at The Hinterland Storm on the GC last year. Only 18 and played every 1st grade game as well as rep duties. Very good player for us but I will be interested to see how he handles the upgrade.

Thanks in advance.

well we smashed them, dont ask a score as there was none being kept, but we ran all over them. Very happy with that performance.
There were no programmes so i could only keep track of numbers, but i later found out that the numbers given from the site weren't exactly accurate.
Best for us were:
Vave
Harlen
Aiton was very good, good quick service and always onto the second phase
Grubb
Lewis: this lad sure knows how to read the game very well, but offsets that with some silly mistakes

but the best player, by the proverbial mile, was Matty Wright playing 5/8.
He absolutely tore them to shreds, with a hand in nearly every try and scoring a few himself.
He set up the plays, he was a class above the rest.
Honestly, he reminded me of Mateo, and he looks so much bigger and taller.
If he keeps progressing this fast he will be our future, and sooner than later, bloody hell the kids only 18 as well.

It was norths mate.
Dont know their lineup but i do know they weren't at full strength, i think 8 of their more experienced players were up the coast. They had some ok moments but were a little out of their depth.
