Sheens Rumours

If Price is let go, or steps down.....I hope it is not for Sheens, Anderson or Brian Smith. I would also hope Folkes goes with him. For mine, Tony Smith to take over with Jim Dymock assistant.

I would go with Tony Smith. He's won premierships and Challenge Cup finals in the UK and is very expereinced.

Enough with the appointment of rookie coaches. It didn't work with Brown and hasn't worked with Price.

Tony Smith would be good. Jim Dymock would also we a good option. What about Trent Barrett? I think he may be OK. Personally I would bring back Browny. He has now gone to England and I am sure will be a better coach with that experience.

Is David Waite still coaching. Geez he was good. I would love to get him back.

As for Tim Sheens surely he would do a better job than Price. Sheens had a heap of problems to deal at board level and especially when his 2 best players were at loggerheads in Farrah and Benji. 2 of the best players in their positions in the comp. There were 2 teams within a team. Now I know it's up to coach Sheens to sort that out but surely he did his best and got them playing good football when they had a full complement on the park. They struggled last season due to injury. He won the comp with them so he can't be too bad.

I think that in this point in time, Sheens is our best option. There are some on here who would compare the management of the Tigers Club to ours however, they are not in the same class. While our joint venture has been relatively smoothly mananged, the Tigres have had in-fighting at management level since day one. Unfortunately directors and the outgoing CEO involved senior players in their political battles to the extent that Sheens's authority at the Tigers was undermned.

Sure we have some short commings within our Club management however, it has never spilt over into the playing squad.

Sheens may not be the very best option however, I believe he is the best option available right now. Maybe a two year contract beginning in 2014 would be appropriate. I am sure he would make a positive difference to our Club and command the respect necessary to bring out the best in our roster.

The main thing is that Price needs to be replaced in order for our team to progress.

Totally agree , Sheens had Farrah , Marshall and 2 boards of directors to deal with whilst trying to prepare the team. The Dragons deep history and club stability I think would be a very good option

Apparently we offered Sheens Head of Coaching coordinator but he wasn't interested. Wanted to be the coach.

Presuming Daniel Anderson wants to keep his present job, I would have Brian Smith (I know he has had problems but he has had spectacular success at rebuilding teams) at the top and Tim Sheens just above Steve Price.

I don't think Sheens would be a good fit at the Dragons.
Brian Smith is a grub and can never forgive him for the "Newtown comment".
Most other options are untried rookies?
What would Roy Masters be like these days?Has a great footy mind and throw some cash at him.....who knows?

Masters has a great footy mind.
I really rate the guy, just worried that he has been out of the game (hand on), for so long.
I have no inside info, but I cannot see Pricey seeing the year through as coach. If crowds continue to diminish, commercial reality kicks in.
I feel for him, but maybe it was just to big an ask for Price.

Anderson great CV and is not coaching. Soft spot forNathan Brown has done his apprenticeship...someone mentioned Roy Masters! Seriously he now lives in Mbourne and has not coached since last century! I don't know enough of Tony Smith to comment.

When you look at the current crop of existing coaches, excluding the usual suspects, there are not many that are standouts and would be a good fit. Would you take a Cartwright or a Furner or a Flanagan? Roosters and Souths were in the same position as us 2/3 years ago and have jagged good young coaches with no NRL experience....that's the luck of the draw. We went down the same path but came up with different results. This is the hardest choice to make with the most serious of implications if you get it wrong. I don't pretend to have the answers, just some thoughts.

No:
Sheens- GTFO...club killer, ego-maniac...not wanted within a hundred miles of the place.
B.Smith - condescending approach does not gel with gen Y players. Slightly better than Stuart.
J.Taylor - has the football smarts, very short term only/fill in.
Masters - past it.

Maybe:
Daley - yet to prove himself at club level week in, week out?
Brown - has improved since leaving us. Good option although contracted.
T. Smith - good record although not proven at NRL level. Currently contracted.

Random:
Dean Young....what have we got to lose? Would he be any worse than current?
Toovey - why not throw a motza at him? Manly board constant struggle with factions.

Definite / wish list:
Bellamy - I would chase him hard again and make him an offer too good to refuse. If Smith leaves Melbourne, the big three start to break down. Combine this with new owners coming in looking for financial results and culturally, things may start to change in bleak old Melbourne town.
We were real close last time.... I'd keep sniffing around...

Sheens and Smith are the only first grade coaches available who could make a difference at the Dragons. Both are short term fixes. Maybe a two year deal and then chase Bellamy. No more rookie coaches please.

Michael Hagan is only "assistant" coach for Qld isn't he ? He won a title with the Knights in 2001 & seems to be a coach who lets the players use their ability, not restrict it like our current one does.

While at the dragons cowboys game last night blowing the top off a few cold frothy ones with some old dragons mates the name Tim Sheens kept coming up in conversation . Seems there's a faction within the club that want Tim as coach. When?? Probably 2014 . Seems the battle behind the sences has began

Stay tuned dragons fans;-)
I can see you're keen to be the forum oracle but you should be aware that this Sheens rumour has whiskers on it.
