Sheens and Smith are the only first grade coaches available who could make a difference at the Dragons. Both are short term fixes. Maybe a two year deal and then chase Bellamy. No more rookie coaches please.

Agree w Possm.....Its a proven recipe that past Dragons teams respond to "senior coaches" ie: Bath, Masters, Bennett all got great results out of our teams.......Sheens is the incumbent Australian coach!! he has knowledge, ego, drive and knows how to coach......he can handle any player and get the best out of them...plus he would be able to attract players....I think a 2 year deal min is worth throwing at him w a Dean Young or Ben Hornby as an Asst coach....

On the flip side I would be very happy w either Brownie or Tony Smith if they were appointed...both proven themselves over in the UK....

One things for sure though - PRICE HAS TO GO!!!

Definite / wish list:
Bellamy - I would chase him hard again and make him an offer too good to refuse. If Smith leaves Melbourne, the big three start to break down. Combine this with new owners coming in looking for financial results and culturally, things may start to change in bleak old Melbourne town.
We were real close last time.... I'd keep sniffing around...

I like your thinking with regard to Bellamy. The Storm will be a very different club with new owners...

How about a caretaker for the remainder of the season giving the club time to consider its options more carefully?

I want to see how Laurie Daley goes with the remainder of the origin series.
So far it looks like he knows how to get the most out of his players.
He might be the coach we are looking for?
Man management seems to be a big factor when looking at decent coaches.Bennett,Bellamy,Hasler all seem to be able to get the best out of their players even when they are fringe players at past clubs.
I know origin players virtually coach themselves at that level and make it easier for their coach but the other coaching options out there are pretty slim.
Anyway just a thought because Price obviously has no idea how to coach at NRL level!

Who was that Father Ted?

Can't remember , but his name came up re the Cowboys job and I remember we had sounded him out even earlier just before we won three in a row and they re signed Price . Both times it was noted Manly don't want to lose him but won't stand in his way. Anyone one of the young and clever on here will know..

St George Illawarra directors are set to discuss Brad Arthur as a possible replacement for Steve Price when they meet tomorrow, but no decision is expected yet.

Fairfax Media revealed yesterday that Arthur had emerged as a contender to coach the Dragons next season, after the club’s recruitment of Melbourne five-eighth Gareth Widdop and Canberra forward Joel Thompson.
Arthur coached the pair when he was in charge of the Storm’s under-20s team. And it is understood his manager, Chris Orr, has held preliminary discussions with Dragons management about the coaching job in 2014.
Price’s future has been under a cloud since St George Illawarra chief executive Peter Doust made an audacious bid to lure Melbourne premiership-winning coach Craig Bellamy to the club before a ball had even been kicked this season.
However, Fairfax Media has been told that Price retains strong support among the players and directors would be reluctant to replace him with an untried coach such as Arthur.
While he is highly regarded, Arthur’s only experience as a head coach was the last six games of last season, when he took over at Parramatta after Stephen Kearney was sacked.
After turning down the Eels’ NSW Cup job when Ricky Stuart was appointed this season, Arthur moved to Manly as assistant to Geoff Toovey.
Price is off contract at the end of the season and the move to sign Bellamy suggests he will be axed if the Dragons can find a better coach. But there is also a view that he deserves a chance with new signings.
After snaring Widdop and Thompson, St George Illawarra are expected to turn their sights to sacked Canberra fullback Josh Dugan and England halfback Rangi Chase.
Chase is expected to join the club as soon as this week after Castleford chief executive Steve Gill announced the Tigers would not stand in his way if he is adamant about a move.
However, Chase declined to shed any light on his plans after Castleford’s 28-12 defeat by Leeds in Friday night’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup tie at Headingley .
‘‘I am taking every day as it comes – it’s out of my hands,’’ he said.

Who would of thought that a 3 game winning streak would be the worst thing to happen to the dragons season. Had they lost a couple of those games there's no way they're able to extend his contract.

Honestly, what did they have to gain by signing him so early? I'm guessing they thought it would help stabilise the side and thought it would have a positive impact. Seeing as their now 2/8 since he's been re-signed.

Exactly, we can't afford to go backwards for another season while a coach gets his experience. Michael Maguire worked as an assistant at Melbourne before his stint in the ESL & that is a good learning curve.

No to rookie coach, only a coach who will demand respect and has earned his stripes. Sheens. , Anderson, Smith on 2 yr deal, ditch Folkes as well!

I base my point on the history of our club. We do like to buy cheap when we can. And as North QId have been sniffing around him as well he might have a bit of talent? Who knows?

This bloke's done some time in the melbourne system as well. So at least we know he can wrestle lol.

"Arthur coached the pair when he was in charge of the Storm?s under-20s team".
