As I was writing the Should Slater be suspended thread, I realised that Cronulla should have received a penalty try for Slater's shoulder charge and then a kick for goal under the post. What is the difference between a high tackle or a shoulder charge that prevents a try being scored. I am obviously thinking of us losing the GF due to a penalty try. If Slater didn't make any contact with the Cronulla winger, he obviously would have scored. Did any of the commentators even mention the possibility of a penalty try? Come to think of it Slater probably should have even been sin binned as well, for using foul play to prevent a try being scored.

No penalty try as not conclusive that he scores.
However Slater should have been straight in the bin for a deliberate foul play.

MUst have been one or the other OT ?
Yes ?

Im of the opinion he scores, but cant be sure. The shoulder charge is banned. No consequence is a farce mate.

Penalty try or bin. Either way Im happy.

Slater could have actually tackled the player legitimately by using / extending his arms but chose not too.
Deliberate foul play so IMO mandatory sin bin and due to the nature of the offence 1 week suspension.
Re the try the fact is if Slater extends his arms out the player still goers into to touch IMO but Slater didn't want to take that risk so opted for the illegal play instead.
Penalty, 10 in the bin and stiff shit 1 game suspension.

Why mate, we don't need to go there.
Hated them ever since and it grows by the game.
Why, because if it was us, then they probably would have awarded a penalty try or at least 10 in the sin bin, but Melbourne and Brisbane continue to get favourable treatment from the refs and NRL. I fully expect the NRL not to charge Slater. Different rules for different clubs and different players.

When comparing the 99 grand final.
Both players could have made a clean tackle.
Both players made an elligal tackle and
Therefore disloding he ball and preventing a player from scoring.

Penalty is warranted.
* 10 minutes in the bin justified
* penalty try justified

If Slater plays GF then when should march to NRL head quarters for our comp in 99.

Yes but it just goes to show the hypocrisy doesn't it. I mean there no malice meant in 1999, our player just made a desperate dive to make the tackle as the opposition was diving for the try. No such accident with Slater, it was clearly a shoulder charge.
