Next two teams have to be Brisbane and Perth. I would not be surprised to see the nrl want to own the Perth team for the first few years to ensure good management in the difficult start up period.
No way with half of the current 10 nsw clubs financially in strife they are goi g to add an 11th in the smallest population area.
re Melbourne do you really not see what value they add when they are getting 500k plus viewers for GF and Origins not to mention Storm being the most watched club on pay TV?
imo they should bring in perth and brisbane 2
but both teams should use existing branding
I would probably go with the brisbane jets and perth bears.
The bears will bring fans to perth away games and give them a bit of history ala the swans.
Fast-forward today and the Titans are a rabble with jack shit support
I am not a Titans fan but the dribble that goes on about the Titans is ridiculous. Their average crowd this year is just over 11000 and that is after a HORROR couple of seasons. The Tigers, the Panthers, the Sharks had a similar average crowd. Manly (10995) and Raiders (9629) were worse
Their core support is ok, their stadium is amazing. Their game day vibe is way better than I have experienced at most other NRL clubs.
As they get it back together, win some games on the park and continue to resurrect their brand the Gold Coast will jump back on the band wagon.
Frankly, if we are worried about some clubs, we should be worried about heart lands like Newcastle where there is little to no competition and struggle to get over 15 000 averages. Imagine what that average could be if a Central Coast team takes away some of the support that is drawn from the Northern Central Coast.
I absolutely agree however that each of the new Clubs should be legit community connected clubs (though not always 'community owned clubs'.) I think you will find the NRL may well own ALL the new expansion clubs and invite investment and participation with a view to handing them over in time.
But now another smoke and mirrors bid (the Bombers) comes along with nothing more than a cool logo and lots of politician-style bullshit from Craig Davidson. Where's their support going to come from? If the only differentiation they have from the Broncos is a) the name b) the colours/ logo and c) No history, then they're going to be up shits' creek pretty soon. If people in Brisbane don't support the Broncos because they're seen as a shelf company with no historical ties to the QRL or Queensland Rugby League, then they sure as hell aren't going to hop on the Bombers anytime soon! They'll draw a crowd against the Broncos, Cowboys and the well-supported Sydney clubs (Dragons, Bulldogs, Souths)- but the crowd will be dominated by opposition fans.

There are plenty of clubs with bigger problems than the Titans. At least they have shown they have great potential if the club can be run well.
well the sth qld crushers did average over 21,000 for their home games for their first year. the second year fell away because of super league emerging and the team performing badly. i reckon a second brisbane team would be pretty well supported if the club was fairly strong
Run well meaning win games and attract bigger crowds - just like Tigers and Penrith and Knights have all demonstrated in the past.
It doesn't matter where the team is from, if they are rubbish on the field no one will show up..
How many would a WA team get to show up if they were at the bottom of the ladder for three years? Look at the Western Force for your answer.
To me the bigger worry are teams like Roosters and Manly that have been top of the table for ever and still get terrible crowds...
The Crushers, though, were a QRL-affiliated team. They had the right idea because their set-up had clear differentiation from the News Limited Broncos. If/ when more teams are added to Brisbane or the surrounding regions, this is the model that should be pursued. For mine, Redcliffe makes a lot of sense AND they will tap into the Northside/ Peninsula market.
Warriors have the potential to be the biggest club in the NRL but seem to struggle to understand how to tap into that massive supporter base.
the second brisbane team will be playing their home games at suncorp stadium
