Should there be 2 teams in Brisbane?

Craig Davison is the reason why the Bombers stink. He conceited the Bombers idea only after falling out with the Broncos. They were born through spite, not through community engagement or for the good of the game. This man had a tantrum, picked up his toys and decided to go home and play with himself. I've been saying this since September 2010. Another SEQld team will only succeed when they embrace the community, when they reach out to potential fans. Qlders aren't fickle but we do like being appreciated by our sporting teams and therefore give back that same appreciation. At the moment the bombers resemble Clive Plamers Gold Coast United a-league team. No heart, no soul meaning no chance at fans or growth and inevitably will disintegrate.

Hunter had the lowest crowds of any club in recent league history. SQ however averaged over 13k which isn't too bad at all.

If anything, the Crushers crowd stats show that SQ needs another team. f**k the Bombers though. They're a heartless, soul less corporate bid.

Any SQ bid would need to represent the Ipswich/Logan area and hopefully incorporate Toowoomba too.

Why lol@Redcliffe?

The Crushers in 1997 averaged 7k, including 2364 and 3545. Their crowds were bigger before their honeymoon period stopped. As soon as Broncos fans lost their shine for the new guys, there were f*cked.

In Brisbane City? No.
South Brisbane/Ipswich/Ipswich-Toowoomba/Ipswich-Logan? Yes
Sunshine Coast? Maybe 10-20 years.
Rockhampton? lolNo.

Sth Q'land attendance place in the league for:

1995 5th out of 20
1996 6th out of 20

1997 their attendqnces droppedin line with everyone elses but still avg similiar or higher than Sth;'s, bulldogs, Penrith, St george etc

Crowd wise they held their own for a new club

Their 1997 attendences were boosted for their last 2 games - after it was known they would fold. Take those away and they never got 6K since the second round. I dont know of another club whose attendances halved.

Anyway, even doubling that last season would still be no reason to add an extra team from there at the expense of the Reds or Bears.

It does challenge your assertion though that everyone in Brisbane who is a RL fan is either supporting the Broncos or another NRL club and not enough people would follow a Brisbane2 team. You have no evidence for this claim and the only evidence we can call upon would suggest that there is, or at least there was in 95&96. I guess we will see if and when the Bombers launch a membership drive.

2nd Brisbane team makes alot of sense and appears to be a lock, much like a 2nd NHL team in GTA or a 2nd NBA team in Chicago

I second Brisbane team MIGHT work (I personally think it would struggle a LOT), but there are BETTER options in my view - Like Ipswich/Western Corridor.

Probably. There should also be two teams in Penrith, the Penrith Panthers and the South Penrith Breegulls

In what part of that lump of meat you loosely call a brain can you tell me where there is a vast population of League lovers in Brisbane who dont support an NRL club? And if so how come that same phenomena doesnt exist in Sydney?

If the Crushers got as low as 2k then we can safely assume that maybe at best 1500 people had season tickets for them in 1997. Yet you demand Sydney clubs who dont average 14k and dont have 20k memberships be dumped!

Half the Brisbane based fans on this forum can see that the idea is stupid, and only exists because an ex Broncos board member is throwing a tantrum. But I guess that makes sense to you given some of your stupid rants!

I've never wished death upon an NRL side.
but if the Bombers are chosen over any other bid, even fking Rockhampton, I would wish them nothing but failure form day 1. I would take great joy in watching them crash and burn, nearly as much as GWS.

The GC is a league town and one could assume that all league fans down there pre 2007 were following other sides too, yet the Titans had no issues attracting a fan base of their own.

A 2nd Brissy side is not that far fetched. There will be fans who jump teams, fans who hate the Broncos and want to "go against the norm" and new converts to league who would simply like to have a fresh team to support.

FTR I hate the Bombers name but I support a new team in or near Brissy, mainly because Id like the chance to see the Knights play more games in SEQ

That's because there was no other local NRL side for the Titans to follow! There is already a side in Brisbane!

I am sure there will be plenty of people up there who would want the Bombers to beat Brisbane. Doesnt mean they are going to become Bombers supporters. FFS when the Warriors play Manly I usually cheer on the Warriors. That doesnt mean I will burn my Eels jumpers, leap into a Haka and become a life long sheep molester.

99% of League fans support their club because they or their parents grew up in that distrct.

But if you really believe your argument, I'm sure there are enough people in Sydney who despise Manly, Easts, Saints, Souths, Cronulla, Canterbury, Wests, Parra and Penrith to swarm to a new club at f*cking Sefton!

Not a comparison mate

Brissy has a population of nearly 2Mil and there is no competition, its either love the Broncos or forget about following a local side. No such problem exists in Sydney

Besides, you are only making an assumption when you say that all league fans here already follow an NRL side. I can tell you that a fair number of old BRL fans refuse to support the donkeys for what they were perceived to have done to the local comp back in '88, not to mention Crushers fans who hate them for similar reasons. Bring in a side who is local and can challenge the Broncos monopoly and you just might be surprised at how well received they are.

The same problem exists everywhere, except with local fans in Easts, Souths, Canterbury or St George areas. Apart from these people to follow a club means to follow a team outside your area. Brisbane is closer to the Gold Coast in travelling time that Penrith is to Easts, Manly, Saints or Cronulla.

That's why it has to be Logan, Ipswitch or Redcliffe. Seriously how many Crushers fans are there ffs? There are none on this forum.

Well the club doesn't exist anymore. Aside from the fact that only a small % of league fans post here, how do you know no one on LU used to support the Crushers? Have you asked them all or even run a pole? I personally know a few ex Crushers fans and not one of them follows a current NRL side

Umm, no Crushers avatars, no Crushers fans agitating like there are Bears fans and Reds fans?

I think LU is a pretty good cross section of the wider Rugby League community.

And I will never run a pole, or a person from any other nationality.

So by your logic where did those 20k Crushers fans come from in 95? Are you saying they were Broncos fans who decided to follow both teams and when the Crushers were culled went back to just following the Broncos?

I don't think anyone is arguing that the CC Bears wouldn't attract crowds of 15-18k, the arguments against another NSW club are varied and rarely include no support for a Gosford based team but just like in Brisbane those people who will get behind a CC team (CC not North Sydney people) are currently probably supporting an exisiting NRL team but will take on a home town club, just like will happen in Perth and what would happen in Brisbane. There is no evidence that fans wouldn't get behind the Bombers, there is some historic evidence based on Crushers support that they will and I hope the Bombers launch their membership drive soon to answer the question one way or the other.

Lowest crowds of 1997 (sub 5,500)
ARL
Crushers had 4 of them
Souths had 7 of them
Manly had 2
Gold Coast had 2
Balmain and roosters each had one

SL
Penrith had 4
Hunter had 3
Canterbury had 2
Perth had 1

so again Crushers were by no means the worse supported club during any period of their existence and if you are using their support as a reason for not including a 2nd Brisbane club then there would be plenty of clubs in the NRL that you feel shouldn't be there.

And just to further your NSW paranoia you will note that out of the lowest drawing games in '97 75% were NSW clubs home games :D
