Should Thorman be given a chance

With Witt and Wagon as our halves and Morris at number 9 do we have enough attacking options against the Panthers, do we need more? I would be tempted to have Thorman in the side instead of Hopkins. With Thorman and Widders off the bench it may be enough to change things around and keep the opposition guessing.

Thorman has a good kicking game and run the ball.

I suppose that I am afraid that it may be too much for Witt.

I expect Smith to go with a player that can cover half on the bench this week, after being caught out last week with Dykes' injury.

I think Thorman plays better without Dykes on the paddock, so I'd give him the chance. I expect Hopkins to drop off the bench, maybe into first division to catch his breath and get back into some form.

But then again, none of us really know :!:

I don't think he has been given the opportunity to show us what he is capable of doing considering he is supposed to be a specialist 5/8. How is he supposed to get a combo happening when week after week he is not playing 1st grade.

The games he has played for us in 1st grade that i have watched i don't think he did anything wrong, in fact in a couple of those games i thought he was one of the better players on the field......imho. I say give him go he has gotta be better than wags playing at 5/8...

Actually N-E he isn't a specialist 5/8. He was playing at 5/8 for the Broncos because they had Denis Moran and another good young halfback as well. He is normally a halfback.

Leasa...I agree with Noosa. Wags has been playing great in the past few weeks but a 5/8 he ain't. Lock is his position.

And Noosa...everything you said about Thorman is correct. Combination is vital in the halves but if they are chopped and changed every week you can't get a combination!!!

Saints say no to Thorman

Former Bronco set to stay in oz.

St Helens have confirmed they will not be signing Parramatta Eels and England ‘A’ half back Chris Thorman.

Rumours emanating out of Sydney suggested that Thorman, who left London for Australia after the 2003 season, might be returning home after being offered limited opportunities in the NRL.

But Saints Head Coach Ian Millward has clarified the Knowsley Road club’s position.

“I’m not looking for Chris Thorman to play with us in 2005, and I’m not interested in a short-term deal.” said Millward.

“I’m pretty close to what we need next year. We might not bring anyone new in, we might just bring a couple of youngsters up.”

 Looks like he might stay! But stranger things have happened

We are playing a two lock optiuon and it will rely more on defense then on wagon being a playmaker. Intresting to see who slots in where. The numbers are no indication where the players will play when smith is the coach.

Most likely scenario is Morris will play a bit of 5/8th (as it's most likely Morris/Witt next year)

Hopkins at hooker.

I would prefer Thorman over Hopkins as it gives just one more extra wildcard/dimension.

Did you guys all see Wagon's spiral passes to the outside men on the weekend?

A la Sterlo or Wally!! Well maybe not!!!

Furthermore, I would order Wagon not to kick this weekend.

rumour has it Wagon has been working on "the banana kick" in training this week to add to his bag of tricks. Look out for it this weekend...

I know I am going off topic here but Colonel, it was only one and I would count it as a fluke.

Burt has also changed his Goal Kicking. He used to have a BIG BOOT however, I think he has traded that in for accuracy as his sideline kicks have just enough legs.

He used to clear the Back Fence easily but I am digressing..........

GIVE THORMAN A GO with WITT I SAY !!!!

With Gower and Campbell out that limits their attck somewhat, there may not be too many points in them and our defence will need to be strong. Keep wagon in as second lock but keep options open with Thorman off the bench.

I think Thorman should be given the full season to prove his worth. I mean look how long it took Morley a world class player to adapt to the aussie game! Thorman just needs time and im sure if he is given it he will flourish we wouldnt of brought him over here if he was a total dud in the first place!

Thorman has played well. I can't see where all this negativity towards him has come from. C'mon Parra keep the guy, he is classy with the ball in hand.

Didn't think Thorman would head to St Helens - it never made sense. That leaves his old club London Broncos and apparently Hull as rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services.

I don't think it would make any sense for him to go back to London at this point - it would go against his original decision to try his luck out here. As for Hull with playmaker Jason Smith leaving, they'd be in the market for a halfback :?:

Hope we give Thorman a chance now with Dykes injured, and see what he can do.
