Newton's Fault? f*** oFF.

He was put in a position by Smith, who told him to leave. Of course he packed up and left the club to PURSUE HIS CAREER, what else could he do when put in that position?

Newton is a clubman. You won't find a more team-oriented bloke. He would have liked nothing more than to finish his career with his teammates at the Knights.

Smith does things like this, and we will just have to put up with it while he redevelopes the club and gives it a facelift.

CJ, put simply - you're wrong.

Clint acted like a spoilt brat after he didn't get his own way. Instead of taking it like a man and doing whatever he could to make the Knights management change their mind, he took his bat and ball and took off.

Put simply, the bloke has no heart.

I never knew why some members on here were so hard on you, but seriously do you make up things in your head?

Smith said to Newton.. that because Smith had heard of big offers to Clint, he sat down with Clint and suggested he consider those offers seriously as it can set him up in the future. And now somewhere along the lines Clint didnt feel "wanted" and that's why he left.

It's not like he said, I don't want you now piss off...

I think people on this forum found it easier to just jump on the "I hate Newton" bandwagon after he left rather than face the quality we had lost. And those people are the ones who are as stupid as razor (whoever that is).

When Smith found out about intrest in Newton from other clubs, he told him to leave rather than table an offer to keep him at the club. Say whatever you want, doesn't change the fact Newton left because he was made to, not because he wanted to.

Nothing to do with being made to or wanting to or whatever. The fact still remains that after the club had stuck by him throughout his career, the first sign of stormy waters he was on the first liferaft off the sinking ship.

There is a fair bit of misinformation about.

Firstly, Smith never told Clint to leave. He simply suggested to consider all prospects, which is good advice.

Secondly, while its easy to draw conclusions, and this comment speaks volumes, Smith never actually told Clint he was not in the picture for next season. He simply told Clint they were undecided as far as a future offer was concerned, and none would be forth coming at this stage.

Is it not to far fetched to suggest that Clint may have played himself into a new contract?

Is it not unreasonable to think that a if a Coach believes a player is performing under his potential, the hunger generated from not being promised a deal for the next year would be motivation for the player to perform at his best and get that contract?

Is there such thing as playing under your best when you have the security of a long term contract?

Do we see players at their best around contract renewal time?

Am I babbling on with bullsh*t?

A certain yes to the last.

Doesn't change the fact he was put in a position that FORCED him to look at other options outside of the club.

He IS a clubman, and would have played out the rest of his career at the Knights if he was given the opportunity. But when he is not even shown appreciation from the club, or offered a contract to keep him, what esle do you extpect from a bloke told he is "not needed for next season".

NO, Smith told him that he wasn't needed at the club next season :sarcasm:

He didnt CJ.

Though it would have been easy for Clint to read between the lines and draw that conclusion.

He told him to consider options, which all players should do, if only to relise their value in the market.

He was also told that at this point, the Knights had nothing to offer, and no decision had been made regarding his contract for next season.

I wont bag Clint on here. He is a great bloke and was always good to me.

Personally... I'd expect him to play his best for us until that contract ends, when he signed that contract he agreed to play for us until it was over.

You repeatedly glance over the main reason people are pissed off at Newton. He was not wanted NEXT SEASON. Just to reinforce that point: NEXT SEASON.

There are dozens and dozens of players every year told by their coaches that their services are not required in the future. How many pack up their bags and leave 11 rounds into the season? Piss all!

Pika, from what I can see, your basing your facts on Smith's media conference alone. Smith is known for smoothing over the facts. What happened behind closed doors is another matter. When the news broke, it was simple: Clint Newton has been told by Brian Smith that he is not needed for next year. Newton is now looking at offers from _____ (insert clubs names here).

Oh, and mac, you are a funny bastard and that's sincere mate. But I don't appreciate your harsh words. Why is it, that a civil disagreement cannot exist on these forums?
