Should whistles be banned in the crowd?

I find it very annoying that people take whistles to games and blow them at the most random times. When you are watching the game at the pub, it can be very hard to distinguish between the ref's whistle and those in the crowd.

It doesn't matter so much at home but in the pub when the sound is not very lod it is a problem

why stop there?
lets ban drums, horns and anything that creates atmosphere and gets the crowd pumping. While we're at it will ban any tackles above the waist, band fends, ban shoulder charges, charge downs....

ahh f**k it, lets save time and go to the opera

Raider you missed the point again. Whistles in the crows can imitate the ref's whistle and cause confusion. Drums and horns are irrelevant.

i can honestly say ive never been confused by a ref whistle and a crowd wistle, whistles work a treat when trying to get chants and what not going, i dont see a single problem with it. Further more ive never seen a player get confused by a crowd whistle...

And id like to know how exactly you enforce a ban on something that small? Metal decectors? Strip searches?

I think banning it would be a rubbish idea but even if they did do it, theres no way they could enforce it, if people want to bring in whistles they'll bring em in

I have been confused once and that was from the phantom siren and from what i belive he is not allowed to go to any NRL games at all.

The Cow bell is annoying at melbourne but that what create the atmosphere at olympic park

all whistles should be allowed

I didn't say that whistles should be banned Raider, as I too can't recall any players getting confused by a crowd whistle - I was just commenting on the irrelevance of your post's drum etc examples.

The phantom siren doesn't use a whistle though lol :p

Whistles can be made from metal, but most are made from plastic these days, and unless you're caught blowing it, it will be too hard to enforce it. But I do admit they can get annoying.

I know I would be pissed off if a spectator sitting next to me was blowing a whistle all game long.!

Whistles can be confusing on TV, but it is worse when you are sitting in front of some loser with a whistle and he won't stop blowing the bloody thing in your ear. You just feel like belting him.

Well...They can locate the idiot blowing it and then the Cops can eject them from the venue. Simple.

In short, they're quite free to bring a whistle in, but start using it and they can look forward to watching the rest of the game down at the local on Foxtel.

Sorry, but they are too annoying and too easy to confuse with the Ref's whistle. It totally amazes me how even the players don't get confused sometimes.

Ban em. Ever heard of supporting your team with your own God given voice? What's next? Trombones? Tuba's? Yak's horns? Starting pistols? Roman Candles? Shooting AK-47's into the air like those terrorist merkins? What the hell, why don't we go the whole hog and use C-4... support your team by blowing up a small part of your own stadium!

Well if its annoying others, which im sure you could agree having a whistle constantly blown near ur earole could be, and if the blower wont stop when told its bothering others then he should be booted...we dont put up with drunksor offensive language...this can be just as bad.....as i said b4 particularly if ur in an allodatted seat and cant move away.

Maybe I'm tone-deaf then as I can't distinguish between a $5 whistle which you can buy from Rebel, a Ref's whistle and a City Rail Train Guard's whistle. Is there a difference???

Who's to say that the players don't have the same problems distinguishing the difference between the aforementioned that I have?

Who's to say that some idiot who's seated close to the touch line can't blow their $5 whistle that they bought from Rebel the same length and tone that a Ref blows theirs and play is effectively halted for no apparent reason?

If, during one game, your boys are on a roll Raider 69, and their momentum that could have scored them a 4 pointer goes to sh*t because some idiot seated near the play blows a whistle, what would you do with that idiot?

It's a good job N.S.W. Police do patrol most Stadiums (for the sake of idiots) because if that happened, we'd hang the f*ckwit from his testicles on the scoreboard!
