Wes playing fullback.
Aku being denied week after week of first grade.
dropped balls.
stupid penalties.
the one-trick show pony aka bailey.
mullen playing halfback sickens me when we have 2 genuine halfbacks playing nsw cup who have both proven to be up to the standard of 1st grade.

what are you sick of?

actually im also sick of our centres (esp wes and doogs) not giving the ball to there wingers enough.

Hard to argue with really

Wes really isnt a good fullback at all. He meanders up to the line on kick returns, seems disinterested in the high ball and is a woeful open field 1 on 1 defender. Surely we have a specialist FB in one of the lower grades that is up for 1st grade and can fill in for Gids?

Pretty much sums it all up really. While I do agree that Aku needs to be given a run, his lack of defensive ability wouldn't be helping. I know we're only a young side and inexperienced to boot, but every week, we keep making the same mistakes. Is it really that hard to catch a football and hang onto it? I don't care what anyone says, Mullo IS NOT a half back, he needs to revert back to five-eight next week and Scotty needs to come in at halfback with possibly Bailey at lock or on the bench.

I'm sick of teams continually bombing our centres/wingers and scoring easy tries.

We just arn't good enough.

The only good news i can see is that we have plenty of young guys with a huge amount of potential.

This year we are slowly getting better, but i can see us being competitive early next season, and getting better all season.

My opinion is we will lose to Saints and can then forget about making the finals and sack Doogs, Wes, and Bails and get on with developing the guys who will do it for us next season. Bedsy should play, but we should be giving Hilder plenty of Hooker time and Bedsy 30 minutes a game on the bench.

Coaching selections have let us down this year, but hindsight is wonderful isnt it?

Wes played very well in his first game as fullback, but since has been sh*t to say the least, we need someone there with spark, and as some teams have showed this year just chuck a young bloke in there waiting for his chance and let him go at it, IE Aku should have got a shot last night.

Bailey, Dureau is a young half, he will have sh*t games, we gotta stick with him though IMO.

Bailey can do what he does now as a starting lock or off the bench for Taia.

It's all well and good to use only 24 or so players for the year but sometimes you need to get the fresh guy in waiting for his chance and they are full of energy trying to show what they can do.

It's time for the likes of Taufua, Uate and even maybe Matt White to get a chance. Wicks was WOEFUL last night. I kept looking for him to take the hitup but it was always going to Simpson.

Next week I want to see

1 Gidley
2 McManus
3 MacDougall
4 Bailey
5 Vuna
6 Mullen
7 Dureau
8 Cross
9 Buderus
10 Royal
11 Houston
12 Paterson
13 Simpson
--
14 Hilder
15 Tolar or Fa'aoso
16 White
17 Taufua

I really do not want to see Bailey in the team next week, not in the #6 at least.

You make a lot of good points. Wes is a valueable centre or winger and really shouldnt be playing fullback, then again what are the options there, they are few.

If Smith doesnt want to play Uate yet then im not going to tell him how to suck eggs. Bailey has had a great season punctuated by a couple of avg games, so im not about to get upset with him.

Our halves, Id like to see walsh get a run for the rest of the year in 1st grade and by the end of it lets make a decision as to which one we want and go with it. Having two halfbacks of first grade quality doesnt seem to work to well, both tend to stagnate.

Our centres arent ball players, they are running defensive players so our wingers dont get much quality and space from them. I cant disagree there, but again what are our options. Dougs, Uate, Sau, Lulia - Some solid options there, especially in defence but they couldnt throw a pass between them.

Wicks is not performing well, but Smith sees a champion inside this bloke so for the time being I guess we have to deal with it.

yeah, good post and i agree on most, if not all points. one thing though - i thought walshy was headed to the dragons? there were very strong whispers last week.

I see big potential in Wicks, but ATM I think he can go learn in reserves to get a good work rate. It's a waste having him in FG if he just doesnt know how to get involved and do the hard yards.

I just hope he doesnt turn out like Perry where we have him for 5 years and no improvement.

I wouldnt mind giving Walsh a go, I know one player who'd love to have him back.. Paterson. He will end up with 15 tries lol.

Anything but Bailey being the 6 and Mullen 7. Mullen doesnt control enough and Bailey doesnt give us a good enough second option kicker unless Gidley is in the team aswell.

Dureau has to be back in the side. I can't understand what Smith was thinking last night. He sat Dureau on the bench for just about the entire game. Watched our teams ineffective sterotyped attack. Then when all is gone on comes Dureau and the first time he gets the ball on a last play we score, perfectly weighted kick plucked out of the air by Mac for us to score. We needed another last play option (other than Bailey) all game. I hope the hype surrounding Bailey at 5/8th and Mullen at 7 is now over.

agree with everything youve said.
i think in our backline atm, we can all agree kids has got to be the fullback. The only other player who needs to be there somewhere is jimmy.
i say the team v saints should be:

1.Kurt Gidley
2.Aku Uate/Wes
3.Jimmy Mcmanus
4.Junior Sau
5.Cooper Vuna
6.Jarred Mullen
7.Scott Dureau
8.Steve Simpson
9.Danny Buderus
10.Jesse Royal
11.Chris Houston
12.Corey Patterson
13.Zeb Taia

14.Richard Faaso
15.Ben Cross
16.Chris Bailey
17.Mark Tafua

18. Matty White

Smithy had enough patience with lulia, its time for him to show the same patience with sau.
the combination of sau and vuna has unlimited amounts of potential.
Jimmy has proven that he doesnt set the world on fire with blistering pace or raw talent, he has however proven himself to be a perfectionist. he makes great metres getting out of our own half. he rarely makes mistakes, he has well and truly converted me to a james mcmanus supporter. (i used to bag on him a bit) and he wants to play centre if i remember correctly. let him play there, he has well and truly earnt it. he could end up being the best defensive centre in the game and lets be honest, who else has really warranted their selection in the 3 or 4 for us?
i also think its time to test aku out, however i would think about putting wes outside of jimmy before putting aku straight in because its quite frankly to much change at once. it would be unfair on jimmy. let him get used to playing center before putting aku in.

wicks needs time in nsw cup, theres no arguing there. potentially, he is our best prop. but he needs to learn how to put 100% effort into every run and every tackle he makes, not to mention increase his workrate by a mile.

mullens not a halfback as ive already said.
scotty has potential.
bailey has played his best footy for us this year playing lock or playing five-eigth like a lock so bring him in for taia.
it would be unfair to drop royal to the bench for ben cross atm. so until cross earns himself a spot in the starting side he should be on the bench.
id have matty hilder in their except apparently he's injured his thumb.

We've already seen the best of Wicks, he will never be our best prop as long as my arse points to the ground. He's had all season to at least show he's serious about playing at an elite level, he's worse now than when he started the season.

i doubt that. weve seen the best of him in 'spurts'.
wicks could be our own fui fui. his quick, powerful and chunky (to say the least).
although i agree he needs a major attitude change.
i think that time in nsw cup could do this.
he needs a big off season to work on his fitness, put on some muscle and lose some f-king weight.

but thats beside the point, im telling you POTENTIALLY he is our best prop.

He spent all last season in the Dragons lower grade sides for exactly the same reasons, it didn't do any good then, and he seems no more eager to put some work in here. He's a waste of time, he proved it last year and he's doing the same this year. Watching him out there is almost laughable some times.

I wouldn't put Wicks into NSW cup. If he can't get fit playing firstgrade, time in the reggies is not going to be any better for him.

I'd send him off to the AIS for a serious month of training like an athlete.
Get his diet right.
Get his fitness properly assessed.
Train him 8 hours a day in the right way.

It would cost a bit, but he might be ready to really show what he has by the end of this year.

Can't help but chuckle when you use that word when we're talking about Wicks
