IF LAFAI LEAVES
Could Tim Lafai hold the key to St George Illawarra re-signing boom rookie Luciano Leilua?
The boom backrower is in demand with Cronulla chasing the signature of the 20s star.
But the Dragons are desperately trying to hold onto the young gun.
It’s understood the Sharks have made him a handsome offer but if the Dragons move Lafai on, that could free up some cash to boost their two-year offer.
Lafai, a Samoan international, has had a difficult time since leaving Canterbury in the off-season to make way for Will Hopoate.
Bringing Lafai to Wollongong on big coin, it appears the Dragons have had a change of heart over their recruit.
Approaching 100 games in the NRL, Lafai has been forced to spend the last few weeks playing reserve grade.
It’s understood Melbourne are closely monitoring Lafai’s situation.
The Storm are in the market for a centre after Ryan Morgan agreed to join the Super League next season.
But Lafai’s manager David Rawlings told
foxsports.com.au that the Dragons see his client as part of their future.
“Tim is committed to the Dragons for the 2017 season and will be fulfilling that term despite speculation over the weekend that he was linking with another club,” Rawlings told
Private Ryan.
“The Dragons have told me as early as last week that they see Tim as an integral part of next year’s campaign.”
Meanwhile the Dragons have told utility back Adam Quinlan, as they have with Benji Marshall and Mitch Rein, they will not be renewing his contract.
